Walk Through Darkness

Story Behind The Song by Andy Cairns (Mar 29th, 2006)

This one had been kicking around since the ‘Never Apologise Never Explain’ sessions but it was nearly like a country song. A bit like ‘Our Love Must Die’ we rocked it up, made it suitably ‘epic’ and added an outro. The ending features guitars tuned to open chords being hit with drumsticks.

There’s also shades of My Bloody Valentine fx on the outro. Lyrically it deals with redemption and through all the self-imposed drama you might put on yourself in your life. Ultimately, I find, you always come back to the ones who matter most.

“Our lives had become books that we couldn’t put down.” - Rupert Thomson, ‘Divided Kingdom’.

Lyrics

I let it all
Get worn away
Seen many nights
And not enough days

I let it go
I cared less
The years to come
Seemed wasted breath

Bad ideas on bad drugs
Good intentions all destroyed
At the bottom of a barrel
Staring at a void

And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk
I walk through darkness

You came along
At the right time
Now your anchor holds
Me in this life

Things that I left buried
In my vacant years of shame
Only help me figure out
Time I can’t regain

And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk
I walk through darkness

Things that I left buried
In my wasted years of shame
Only help me figure out
Time I can’t regain

And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk
And I walk through darkness

And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
Just to carry you home

And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
And I walk through darkness
Just to carry you home
