Songs That Take You To A Sad Place

#

Started by The Auto Surgeon (Mark)

Heart on sleeve time folks. We all in our lives have a sensitive part (well some I know, others I’m still not sure about) and usually we have a song that was around that time or perfectly encapsulates the feelings felt at that point.

Mine is Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward.

Because events meant that someone who meant more to me than anything else in the world went away hurting, as they felt that we couldn’t help each other to get through things - which I still don’t agree with.

So any takers …

well its pretty shameful, but david gray’s “please forgive me” is one. That came around at the end of a relationship…

Alice in Chains’ “Nutshell”. “Pearl” by folk implosion…”Rain song” by Led Zeppelin. So theres a quite a few really. They all mean something for reasons i won’t go into here. *sheds a tear* :)

Fair enough. I don’t want to make anybody cry (people I pass by do that enough already), just asked about the song.

:) :) Smily faces for Dan :) :)

I find that songs don’t really make me “sad” per se, more erm…optimistic. They can stop you in your tracks and make you think of something sad to connect to, but then fill you with an optimism for the future.

Is that stoooopid? Or really gay? :p

Mate, people may not agree with your views but that never makes them stoopid. :)

Music effects people in different ways - I mean I used to be able to listen to Cream & Clapton’s solo work okay before I split with Claire, but now I have to switch the channel over, forward to the next song or smash the fuck of the machine playing it. She loved his stuff. And it hurts too much too allow the music to linger around my ears.

Now that’s got to make me sound like a fruit loop?!?! :(

Just the fact that people sat around a board table and decided to release that steaming pile of donkey shit always brings a tear to my eye.

There was talk of a second album last year but nothing ever appeared, but also I think “Start with a strong and persistent desire” didn’t sell as many as the record company hoped.

But I’ll be getting it, when/if a second album comes about.

The Johnny Cash album (I think it’s the American 4) is a bloody good disc. So can understand why it would stir up feelings in others.

Though not for the reason you would think.

I bought it when I started going through my “difficult” phase and that album just soundtracked my misery.

Although - the album was pretty dissapointing. American Idiot came out the same time and I still love it :)
