Not that it’s any of your business or anything…

That is very sad to hear, as your average function/ wedding band can command more than that.

It is outrageous when you think of the blatantly awful bands that are packing venues around the world right now.

Fair play to them for doing it for artistic reasons rather than financial.

If they need some extra money coming in, I think Andy and Michael could both do seriously good as presenters on the radio.

Oh yeah, that’s right I forgot. I do the same thing at the local bakery. Everytime I buy one of the baker’s breads, I inquire about his monthly income.

At this point I would like to stress that I’m NOT nosey, I’m merely trying to acquire an insight into the social-economic status of the joint-ventures I pump money into.

I think it’s an interesting question you posed…

Spaceball I don’t think he was being as specific as asking their monthly income…

He’s just enquiring as to their motivation…

SLOW and EASY Spaceball…deep breaths! count to 10…

It is not like he walked up to the boys on the street and asked them, he merely threw it out there for discussion. This is an area for chat after all, or is it censored to what you believe to be right or wrong?

If he had done what you are suggesting, I would agree with you, since he didn’t, take a chill pill.

I just find it to be an interesting topic because they sometimes hint that way themselves on diary entries and it makes you worry that they may throw in the towel.

Let us hope not.

I think Spaceball 1 is right here, other people’s finances are just not our business, and has nothing to do with the question what their motivation is. Andy has said a million times before that they do it for the fun. Why would you doubt that and bring up their financial situation?

I don’t think there’s a difference between asking someone in their face how their financial situation is, and discussing it in public with people who don’t have anything to do with their finances.
I think some people are just too nosy, just my thought though. :o

It’s not the same as saying:

Hey, what does Andy pocket every month and how much is he gonna spend on his missus on Valentine’s day and what car does he drive and how much is his monthly mortgage payment etc etc. THAT is intrusive.

“How do T? manage to eke out a living?” is more the kind of question, not “why?”.

For Bandykoot on top of a regular job it would be damn good money - to turn up to a pub on a Friday night and bang out a few tunes, no worries.

But for a full-time band (who would have to keep a chunk back to pay the tax man, of course) and who would be off the road for a significant part of the year, it is hardly great money, especially when you consider that there are bands that you have never heard of who charge £3500 for weddings.

It’s all relative, I guess, but I imagine that the lads lead a similar lifestyle and earn a similar wage to your average office worker, which isn’t the end of the world for such a fun job, but they have the added worry of the fact that it could all go tits up at any time.

erm, amongst other spendings they have to pay their crew, they have to travel a lot and equipment has to be replaced from time to time too.

I simply can’t believe that the 1500 per gig are true. At least I don’t hope so for the boys.

Such as yourself.

I would like to think it’d cost more than £1,500 per gig for our boys, I’d also like to think they get some of the money from ticket sales.

Apparently, Therapy? only got £800 for playing Alternative Ulster gig in 2006!

Must put out these terrible flames of discord - people are arguing pointlessly - must urinate on the fires of misery - that will solve things! TD’d B you’re a genius genius I say!

Oh fuck - I appear to be urinating pure petrol and now the flames are much much bigger.

Bollocks to it, I’m going to the pub, tell Dan where I am if he needs me for anything.

That’s a very low price indeed, but how can you debate on how the band survives if that’s the only income you know about…

I’m just saying what I think, without being wound up… Didn’t any of you say in that other thread that this Is a messageboards and people should be allowed to speak their mind?

Or are you people always wound up if someone doesn’t share your opinion?

The guy who started this thread is new to this board and also pretty new to the world of Therapy? Talk about a warm welcome telling hime that “it is none of his business” to throw such a subject out there…

We did not ask the the band for a FY07 Business report highlighting profit and loss, we merely are chatting and speculating as you do on a “chat” forum.

It only seems to be you and Spaceball who have a problem with this - or do I hear any other voices out there?

If there are topics on this board that I have no interest in because I find them to be unsuitable, do you know what I do? I just don’t bother reading / posting in them.
