Agreed - hopefully they do a better job next time.

The production on Chi Dem is pretty pristine I have to say… (just to stay on topic).

I have a feeling that it is one of those albums that will take a while to really grow on people…

You’ld expect it to be pristine after 17 years really…

That said - St Anger took 6 years and everyone knows how awful that sounds !

I think the key thing for me that has shocked me is that it feels like a REAL album, a genuine body of work, whereas I expected it to be just a mish mash of mad ideas all crammed in together.
I mean, there IS a slight sense of it being overdone but really it’s more credible, is what I am trying to say, than I ever expected.

If you heard the GH3 version - you would definitely hear a difference.

For the record
I hated St Anger as it sounds like Lars is hitting a dustbin lid instead of a snare drum and Hetfields vocals are embarrassing
I loved Death Magnetic as it sounds like Metallica again
I never used to like Guns and Roses really
Bought Chinese Democracy as my curiosity got the better of me, and to be honest I’m really enjoying it, yes its overproduced but its been mixed for 15 odd years and lets be honest the whole point of guns and roses is to sound totally over the top. My only criticism would be that it doesn’t really work as an album, it just feels like a compilation of songs from years of writing, which is what it is I suppose, minor criticism though.

to be honest with so much time and money its not like he could put something bad out, he knew what he wanted and he kinda achieved it. Its actually refreshing believe it or not that someone cares so much about an album, think about all these bands that just spew out shit albums because they have to to stay relevant or fufill label obligations

It is the first album that I have heard in ages where it sounds like effort and thought went into it.

It may not end up being an instant sales smash, but I think it will stand the test of time and become a classic.

You can tell that most of the songs have been written on piano - Its a good album but it lacks some decent guitar riffs.

listened to libertad the other day. first time i’d ever listened to it all (never bought it cuz i thought the first vr one was cack apart from two or three tunes). fuck me - slash - wtf? does every song have to sound the exact fucking same! i only put it on because i had to wipe my ipod cuz my computer’s fucked and i wanted chinkese demo on it to listen to going to work. my mate has very similar music tastes so i just used his itunes, and this was there, so i thought, fuck it, i saw them live touring the album, may as well give it a listen to. what! UTTER! ABSOLUTE! GUFF!

should this be in here? still lovin chinese demo tho. one or two tracks are boring me now, but TWAT and Sorry still my fav’s. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but Sorry seems like a thinly veiled “Fuck you” to Slash to me - “Nobody owes you, Not one goddamn thing, You know where to put your, ‘Just shut up and sing’” ?

I also though Sorry could be a little bit of a fuck you to Slash, but mainly if you look at the lyrics I think he’s having a go at the press and people that have said shit about him in the past and also using it as a self depricating song having a go at himself for the way things have gone. The Sorry element is for the fans. Thats how I see it anyway, I could be way off the mark though
