There’s some great songs on the Illusion albums;
Double Talkin’ Jive, Civil War, Yesterdays, Estranged, Right next door to hell, Dust n bones
..but the rest is pretty poor, in particular, the ‘Live & Let Die’ cover. Awful.

Let me just make my list of the good single UYI-album that can be found within this double album:
1. Right Next Door To Hell
2. Dust N’ Bones
3. 14 Years
4. Yesterdays
5. Get In The Ring
6. You Could Be Mine
7. Shotgun Blues
8. You Ain’t The First
9. Pretty Tied Up
10. Don’t Cry
11. Bad Obsession
12. November Rain
13. Double Talkin’ Jive
14. Civil War
The covers… well, I still have a soft spot for them because as a kid I thought everything GN’R made was gold. I guess they’re dispensible.
Not sure about songs like “Pretty Tied Up”, “Bad Obsession”, “Back Off Bitch”, “Double Talkin’ Jive”, “Don’t Damn Me” and “Dead Horse”. These songs aren’t bad, but not as good as anything on “Appetite For Destruction”.
“So Fine” is okay, but typical Duff McKagan-cheese.
The rest - especially the atrocious “My World” or that boring 10 minute snorefest “Coma” - is filler.

For me, the only “corkers” are:
Perfect Crime
Garden of Eden
as for the rest, I always had a bit of a soft spot for Bad Obsession, Double Talkin’ Jive and Coma, but the rest I can just take or leave.
Down on the Farm off Spaghetti Incident? pisses over most of the Illusion stuff.

They really should’ve toned the albums down to just one. The releasing ‘2 new albums separately’ game is very dangerous - negative fan reaction to System of a Down doing it a couple of years ago virtually killed that band. Although, in fairness, they had the added nerve of putting out 2 x 35 minute albums. At least GNR put out two albums over 70 minutes long for some kind of value for money, although putting ‘Don’t Cry’ on each one was a piss-take, surely?
If GNR had wanted to emulate ‘Appetite For Destruction’ (possibly one of the best rock albums of all time), they could have put something out like this;
Civil War, Right Next Door To Hell, Dust N’ Bones, 14 Years, Yesterdays, You Could Be Mine, Estranged, Pretty Tied Up, Don’t Cry, November Rain, Double Talkin’ Jive.
‘Appetite’ would still piss all over it, but the above songs on one album would have at least been a good effort!

agreed. AFD is one of the greatest albums ever. a pretty much flawless album. i could never get into the illusion albums as much because double albums genuinely frighten me. i can only think of a couple of double albums ever that actually work cohesively, those being the wall and possibly, POSSIBLY, the fragile (even though there is some filler on there).

Even though Use your Illusion did indeed have its turds, I found it a solid testement to Hard Rock music. Nothing in their catalogue will ever top Appetite of course though.

It could go the way of Stone Roses - Second Coming, i.e. actually quite good but most people write it off as shite cos their expectations are so huge.
Interesting that the 5 year gap that was lamented as such a massive time back then would be normal these days. (Sorry if I am repeating myself here, got deja vu then)
I am very interested to hear CD. I will buy it immediately that it is released, i will give it a good listen and all that, but genuinely I expect very, very little from it.
Axl was always my least favourite member of GnR anyway.
It all went tits up when Adler was sacked.

God that is so true.
But I also hate his style of drumming, or rather his drum SOUND. They just sound bombastic and plodding and totally lack the swing and swagger that Adler had, for all his faults.
Sorum stiffled the life out of so many GnR songs. And what kind of name is “Sorum”?! For fuck’s sake, you’re a rock star! Make up a decent rock star name you “permy cunt”!
Steven Adler was a good drummer, I never understand when people say he wasn’t.

Course it will! In 25 countries it’ll go straight to number 1. There’s 10 million people gagging to hear it, or at least fooled into thinking that it must be good because it took so long to make! I’m mildly interested but i shan’t buy it.
