Yup, Phil’s the man indeed :D

Saw him live with both Pantera and Down - he kicked ass in both cases.

I saw Pantera only once, it was 97 when pantera was the opening band for the Kiss Reunion show.
What a big show!! unfortunately there was a big difference between the Kiss sound and pantera sound, it sucks!!!! Why the producers always do the same?? Why shitty sound for the opening band?
I don’t know if it’s usual in europe to do that, but here in Chile, i mean in southamerica, is usual…
Well this shit is usual but it doesn’t happen always, there are some exceptions…

Yeah, support acts (whoever they may be) usually only end up getting half the switchboard.

Otherwise Slipknot would have blown Metallica off the face of the planet that one time I saw them in Dublin.

Luckily for me, Pantera and Down were both main acts when I saw them. Patera was around 94 on the Far beyond driven tour.

Setlist (1997 Kiss reunion concert)

2) Becoming
3) 5 Minutes Alone
4) Suicide Note Pt.2
5) This Love

Pretty short, isn’t???
It was pretty cool to see Dimebag alive (RIP)

I have the Greatsouthern Trendkill Cd cover signed by Dimebag and also his pick. Cool Stuff, it’s a kind of treasure, hehehe :-D

Yeah, that is short.

I actually was living in Germany when I saw them, probably one of the best gigs I have ever been to - Phil was pretty wasted though, could hardly remember the lyrics to Cowboys from Hell.

Dime = RIP, I was at the 2004 Therapy? concert in Dublin the night he was shot dead - great gig, but a sad night for metal.

That’s a very kind offer Roberto, but no worries - no idea how you could send me the stuff anyways, not the most high tech person in the world.

Good to have a man who appreciates the art of shredding on this board though :D

Comparing Lars to Phil!?

Shame on you - can’t remember Phil becoming a fucking sellout and telling his fans to feck off (after the reaction that Load was a pile of bollocks).

Phil had his problems with drugs and booze, but he was never a hypocrite like Lar$.

I remember Lars telling fans to get over albums like “Masters Of Puppets” and that they have grown up and will never play this type of music again bla bla bla…

Now all of a sudden it is all “oh, the new album has a real Masters of Puppets vibe bla bla bla buy it spend your money bla”.

Fuck Lars - he can only dream of making half of the contribution that Phil has to Metal.

No, Phil is an asshole for completely different reasons than Lars.

Firstly, this:

Secondly, I don’t like his redneck lyrics.

In one of the Superjoint Ritual songs he rants against “sandcrawlers” and theirlike.

And all in all, he seems like a pretty violent guy who has glorified drug abuse for a very long time.

Well, as I’ve said I like Pantera and Down and think that Anselmo is not only a gifted shouter but also a pretty good singer if he wants to. I really don’t care for the guy himself, though.

Lars said he has no problem with fans downloading songs that are FINISHED. His problem was that fans were downloading songs that werent ready and as such werent going to be as good as they could be.

He says he himself downloads music and it was never about money - just trying to stop people hearing unfinished songs.

Hooch - Can you split this into a Pantera thread please.

A video of him expressing that he regrets Dimebags death - how does that make him an asshole? Or are you one of those idiots who blames Phil for some Psycho shooting Dimebag?

As for the rest, it is a matter of taste and I will agree to disagree with you on that one. Not all of his lyrics are as you describe, and if you think so, I guess you just really don’t know many of their songs.

Bullshit, its all about the cash. Check out Rollins take on it on his spoken word cd Talk is Cheap Volume 4.

As for Phil glorifing drugs I don’t think he has ever done this bar smoking a joint on their home videos. Drugs have abviously taken their tole, just look at Phil 1992 and compare it will Phil just 5 or 6 years later. Saw the Pantera Behind the Music and he was pretty fried even though i don’t think he’s doing drugs any more.

Phil will be forever eating humble pie for shooting his mouth off about Daryl just before he was killed then going on about how they were ‘brothers’. Whoops, Phil!

And we all know Lars needs a punch!

Napster was full of finished songs.

Seems he’s trying to back out of it and make out it was all about artistic reasons now, when it was purely financial.

I personally have no problem with that - why should people expect music to be free? - but he should be honest about it.

To be fair that was an awful situation. You slag a guy off and then a few months later some crazy fuck shoots him dead. I’m sure Phil never seriously wished harm to Dime. That whole Pantera thing is just so sad.

hehehe,

Anyways, give Phil a break - I admit that as a person the guy is nowhere near perfect (are any of us?), but as a lead vocalist and performer he is unrivaled in Metal.

Don’t know why everyone is hard on Phil - back then they were all slinging shit at each other - the Abbott Bros. and Phil. Phil never wished death upon Dime.

Now he never will get the chance to make up with him and Vinnie is acting like Phil pulled the fucking trigger himself - how would you feel if that all happened to you?

Some Pantera questions:

1) Anyone heard the Rebel Meets Rebel album (ie the Pantera dudes minus Phil but with some American country singer)?

2) Anyone seen the Dimevision DVD

3) Is the Vulgar Videos DVD worth getting…?

The Vulgar vids.. personally i don’t think much of, a few cool live performances and videos.. but most of it IMO is them dicking about and stops being funny very quickly… the earlier one was the best 2 and 3 i have only bothered to watch once.

What I really want is a decent live DVD of Pantera with a whole gig or a compilation of all their best tracks live from across their career. :(

Question - where did Pantera start to lose it?

I didn’t bother buying Reinventing the Steel because I thought the tracks played on the Rock Show were fairly weak, yet I loved their other stuff.

Plus Phil made some racist comment on stage that got blown up and a year later he almost died from a heroin overdose.

Just had to question this, that’s all.

I found there strongest moment to be “Far Beyond Driven” - “Great Southern Trendkill” was also good, more aggressive with less listenable tunes - but I think that is where it started going downhill.

Fair play to them that they never gave in and went the comercial route, but Reinventing the Steel was without a doubt their weakest album (I exclude all the glam shit that they did prior to Phil joining).

The album has some good tracks, but you got the feeling that their hearts weren’t really in it anymore.
