Orange County and Shallow Hal are really poor films. School of Rock was so cheesy and moralistic in an outdated way I daren’t even look at The Pick of Destiny…

And novelty bands are amusing once (unless its The Darkness who weren’t even that!) but should go away after that.

Sorry JB gets a thumbs down from me! :(

i don’t understand this thing you have where you think people have to be technically amazing to make good music? Jack White isn’t Steve Vai, but then Steve Vai isn’t as exciting a player as Jack.

It didn’t get as far as explaining the plan. I said ‘are you pondering what I’m pondering’, you said, ‘I think so, d’, and proceeded to give me a kicking. :(

You know, sometimes (just sometimes) I think you may have misunderstood on purpose…

I don’t think he is amazing but you can’t really say he is shit.. he has a very unique style of very old school blues and county just done in a heavier way. He does come up with some very imaginative solo’s, and technical string bends and other things to give strange accenting (but he does seem to over use certain “tricks” that he does). The way he plays does mean that it can be very messy and sound like a train wreck at times… when it comes together it is very effective IMO, and i like it at times as it’s a bit different to what everyone else seems to play… but if you don’t like it then you don’t. I hate guitar players who widdle for no reason at all.

You’re pretty much spot on there, Simon, particularly with the blues and… erm… ‘county’ reference. ;)

well in the absence of Slash not writing anything decent for nigh on 20 years, we’ve got Jack. who’s written some of the most memorable tunes of recent years.

Kind of true, but Chris Moyles couldn’t name the artists who released “Hotel Yorba” on today’s “Rob DJ’s Pub Quiz” section of his breakfast show, so we’d have to say that Hotel Yorba wasn’t one of them…
