According to my contacts in the know, the guy who owns Rios in Bradford has bought Heaven And Hell, up by the Grand Theatre and is converting it into a live venue.

Good on him I say.

Result! I’ve never been into H&H… is it a big place? Does it mean I never have to set foot inside the stinking cesspit that is The Cockpit again? *hopes* *prays* *dribbles a bit*

To recap the quote: The guy who owns the Rios in Bradford is buying a place in Leeds and turning into a live venue. So it might become the Leeds Rios. :)

At least, I think that’s what Hooch was getting at…

Thankyou Missy, you’re very good at this secretarial work you.

AS for the lobster - there’s nothing wrong with the Cesspit! it’s an ideal indie rock dive, what more do you want.

I never went to H&H either, I was in Leeds when it opened and I seem to remember the nickname sweaty and smell being used for it.

I believe it had 3 different rooms, so whether it will be a cockpit style 3 room venue I don’t know.

I love Rio’s in Bradford though, so a Leeds one has to be a good thing :)

At least you can sit down if you want, or get a drink and get back to the stage inside half an hour - and you can actually see the stage from several locations which is sometimes a bonus. And it has nice pillars to lean on. And the atmosphere is usually pretty good.

The cockpit is just a big dark sweaty box of pre-pubescent children. I hate it.

Ok, d - there’s another one!

I’m with mum.. the Cockpit doesn’t have a single redeeming feature.

How come you hate Rio’s WP? Some of the best gigs I’ve been to have been there.

It has Gemma - she’s a redeeming feature.

Who’s she? Barmaid? The bar staff are alright, it’d be nice if there were more of them. Hope she’s not a bouncer, I hate the security there.

@Gimmie - tin roof? If you could just arrange to get hundreds of track-suited kids in there on a very hot day they might cook :)

Yeah I take that back… ‘nice’ was far too strong a word.

Banning moshing is ridiculous. *is not surprised to see NO MOSHING signs put up all around the Cockpit*

Whats so bad about the cockpit, laods of bands play there, you should be happy to have a place where you can see bands close to you and have a choice, at the 2 places i alternate living in 1 of them has a venue which only has gigs less than once a month (but gets bands like therapy? and skindred down) and is very expensive
and the other place has weekly gigs but has shitty indie and emo bands that i dont want to see.

and to see a good band i have to travel into england usually which is a big hassle as im too young to drive

stop complaining.

you dont know how lucky you are.

The beer is shite, it is often full of twats (granted not on gig nights, but it taints the whole thing). It’s just a dank festering pit. Oh yeah, a bouncer cupped me there once. Was a bit surprised.

Does Rio’s still smell of sweat?

Does the Cockpit still look like an airraid shelter.

I’ve not been to either in about a decade.

I went to Rio’s on a Monday night back in ‘96 me and 5 mates were all that were there all night…at least I got to explore the place and see the dressing rooms and graffiti.

It was busier when Cannibal Corpse played there a couple of months later.
