I ride a Yamaha Diversion 900. Nice for long distance and pretty quick as well. I’m not into shoppers actually.

Which one do you have ?

hey my brother wants to buy a bike, but he doesn’t like ‘race’ bike (you know, i mean sometihng like yamaha r1 or honda cbr ecc.) he wants to buy something like a custom (not harley because it’s too expensive!): honda shadow, y. drag star ecc… or something like ducati monster or triumph bikes… what do you suggest?

I’d never buy a Harley. A friend of mine has one, it costed a lot of money and every time we go biking, there’s something with his engine or another thing is broken. You have to be a real mecanic to ride a HD, I guess.

All depends on your buget of course. Dukes and Triumphs are indeed good choices in my opinion, but that’s of course not a low budget bike. Watch the horse power (look at the weight), watch the cc and definitively do a test ride if you buy second hand. You wouldn’t believe what people sell nowadays. Is it a chain or cardan bike (less maintenance)? Do you use yor bike for long distance or just short trips ?

If I’d buy one now and had a lot of money I’d go for the new Yamaha FJR 1300. What a baby ;-)

In my opinion first bike should be:
-350 cc or less
-cheap -that if your brother will change his mind he won’t regret it
-also slow up to 140 km/h (it will be harder to kill yourself)
-it is very likely that he will fall - so the bike should be light and have gmols( kind of bumper :)) for protection for him and bike
-easy to repair(it depends on how much money he have) remember that usualy 2T are easierm to fix than 4T

I know that it will be hard to find a bike that will fulfil all of this…

anyways i would recommend a Virago 250 or some offroad bike
Remember that it is very hard to find a bike that will fit you for life time, when your brother will choose one try to find some people that have one and ask them for +,-

regards
