What does everyone think of Underdogs ? :)

The opening chords remind me of Whastername by Green Day.

Oh, sure, just because they use similar chords they must have stolen it. [/irony] :p

Not too bad a song, bit more lively than the last album. The lyrics are a bit weak.. could have done with a bit more work.:)

That’s what everyone else was saying about those songs that sound like T? songs, but it didn’t stop you going on about how they weren’t stolen. That was kind of the essence of the irony in question. ;)

See I quite enjoyed Know Your Enemy, it seemed to have a bit more get up and go.. I thought the albums before it and after however were shite or at least very dull.

The Holy Bible - Undeniable Classic.
Everything Must go - Also Good - but not Amazing.
This is my truth - Um ok…
Know Your Enemy - Had some rocking moments - pretty good
Lifeblood - some very good song - but no rock and roll to be found.

The Holy Bible - okay. James’ frantic way of singing is a bit too much at times.

Everything Must Go - Half of it is great, the rest is good

This Is My Truth… - Undeniable classic

Know You Enemy - you gotta give them that they were trying out a lot of things on this album. It’s not entirely successfull, but interesting for the most part

Lifeblood - I really learned to appreciate some of the great songs on there because of those videos on youtube (Cardiff Afterlife, Fragments, I Live To Fall Asleep and, of course, Empty Souls).

The new song… - ah… maybe it needs some time for me to like it? :(

The new song is alright, but nothing special - after what Nicky had said about it beforehand, I expected a bit more than what it turned out to be.
But nevertheless, a huge improvement from Shiteblood.

GT - mediocre

Bible - amazing genius
EMG - good
TIMT- not bad
Enemy - oh dear
Lifeblood - very oh dear

New stuff - so far sounding good. the lyrics are trying a bit too hard though.

It certainly is, Mr Squall, couldn’t agree more.

Always in my top three of all time, and depending on the day it gets the top slot sometimes too :D

The Holy Bible is amazing stuff (and their best album) and the next record I really like is Everything Must Go.
I do like This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours, well the only thing that bothers me it’s getting a bit boring in the end.
Few songs were good from Know Your Enemy album and Lifeblood…ermm..did I miss that..

Anyway the new song sounded a bit like these new wave neo punk bands do (at the start) but after that it sounds more like Manics. Not a killer song, not too bad. But I really think these guys should have ended when they told so.

And btw, where the hell is Richie D James?!? Hiding in Tibet?

Me and my bro were talking about this over the weekend. If you listen to / read interviews with the band now, they seem to imply that they think he is dead, though they never go so far as to say that.

Quite!

Gold Against The Soul is often dismissed as the big blustery stadium rock overproduced disappointment after GT..none of which is true.

Gold is a storming album - how can it be stadium rock with lyrics like: Want to pull my fingernails out??

I bet Richey is dying to come back now. I think he went away, sampled some of real life and realised how spoilt and childish he was and is scared to show his face now!

And all you Manics fans who want to cry over what I just said - chill out! I am a huge fan but richey wasn’t all thaT!

eveything bad ever, be it manic related or otherwise, is nicky wires fault. the guy couldn’t write the alphabet without fucking it up, yet alone write a decent lyric nowadays.

You can download Underdogs for free from the official site now.I’ve given it a few listens and i think they lyrics are awful which is a shame because the solo albums showed a bit of promise.

Has anyone heard the new single Your Love Alone,Is Not Enough? It’s very middle of the road and has Nina from the Cardigans singing on it but it does nothing for me.

i agree. underdogs isn’t actually a bad sounding song, but the lyrics ruin it completely. as a “taster” for the new album it’s really badly judged. i really really hope they manage to release a good album (it’s been over a decade now) but i know it’s incredibly unlikely.

your love alone is not enough also didn’t fill me with confidence either. again, primarily because of the lyrics, but also the music isn’t exacly great either.

but i’ve got my tickets to see them in cambridge and i’m sure that’ll be worthwile. i really liked james’ solo album (i never even bothered with nicky’s) so i’m still hoping they might have some good stuff on the new album.

I heard Nicky Wire on Kerrang! this morning, and they also played Your Love Alone Is Not Enough.

Hmm..I expected something more considering Nina Cardigan is on the track - it didn’t really make the most of her voice. And the lines where the lyrics are repeated over and over are just yeuch, rubbish.
