what about this, have you ever heard about the french tv show called ‘taratata’, it was a very bloody good show and it was 100% live sic. Well once, the guest was Sting and as a guest he got to invite a band to perform with and guess who? Therapy playing and Sting singing Next to you(Police of course) well that was brilliant and if I remember well I should still have this footage on a videotape somewhere.
Anyway,I’ve got another long story(I’m obviously not a happy person)
about them and me.
Now, how many of you think Therapy is crap since Fyfe left??

No way is T? crap since Fyfe left. Although he was a unique drummer, they have a pretty darn good drummer now, and of course Martin joined the band. Have you listened to post-Fyfe T? stuff? I mean, Semi-Detached is at least as good as the albums before he left the band (that’s a matter of personal taste though), and some of you who heard the new song This One’s For You have to admit that Graham is on fire, the drums won’t get any better than this!

This happened sometime in 92 or 93 I think, I remember talking to Andy about it in an interview on the Nurse tour. I seem to remember he said was really looking forward to doing it before the show as Sting was a great hero of his, but then when they did the show he found out that ‘he was a complete twat’. I still have this on tape as part of a very funny interview with the guys. there was also a funny part when Fyfe started talking about A&M giving the band complete creative control when they signed - he said they then tested it out by recording 7 minutes of ‘flatulence’ called ‘Fuck Shit piss wank’ or something like that to see if A&M really would let them release it. Strangely enough they declined. I think Fyfe was just winding me up as we were doing a radio interview but it was still funny. Can MikeHell or any of the lads confirm the existence of this track ? :-) If so, maybe it can go on a B-side as ‘FSPW (The (Thankfully) Lost Demo)?

Thanks for the info, i always wanted to found out more about this song
(which is very good by the way). And i don’t think T? are crap now, i mean, to me the worst T? album is Infernal Love and i also think that they ‘ve written some of their best songs (like Black Eye Purple Sky, Suing God, Little Tongues First, Fat Camp) after Fyfe left. Besides, Fyfe didn’t really write a lot of music, both Martin and Graham are better composers.

‘Therapy? is crap after Fyfe left’?? No way!
Why the hell would we be talking about them on the Internet 6 years after he left if they were ‘crap’?!
But I don’t think the albums are as consistently good as they used to be since he left (probably nothing to do with him leaving). They still ROCK!

Cyrille,

You can find that song also on a T? bootleg. It’s on green vinyl. I traded it some time ago, so it can’t be hard to get it.

its good how many bands have got a sort of divide half way through their career between their ‘old’ and ‘new’ stuff and fans debate about it, but Therapy? have remained consistent, and every album has been unique and different but good in different ways.

I like T? albums with Fyfe much more than with Graham…
i don’t think that it was the only thing what changed their style but one of the main.

I hope that Graham can do something better then solo in the ‘Fat camp’ :(((

cheers

Graham really needs a click track machine, just listen to the first 3 seconds of that song and you’ll know what I mean.. he can’t keep up the pace, it’s embarrasing.

We got the point. He’s no fuckin’ robot, damn!
I like Graham because he drums like Graham.
I like Fyfe because he drums like Fyfe.
And Mike Portney kicks the shit out of both of them. ;-)
(No offence)

I can’t judge the Joey-dude, but Herrera’s Bassdrum work is pretty impressive. (Although he uses triggered drums).
Hmmm, is it true he used to drum in Suicidal Tendencies or am I retarded?

Oh, and Dave Lombardo is still the Turbo Drummer of them all!
His fills are amazing and he needs to do them after every 4th messure. Haha!
Some other favs: Danny Carey from Tool, Neil Peart from Rush, Mark Zonder from Fates Warning (his Cymbal work is fuckin ace!)
Oh, and probably a lot more…but I forgotten them…

yeah, herrera’s bass drum is pretty impressive, but you don’t get a feel for on the albums so much becuase it’s a drum machine, although he can play a lot of it live. sadly not hunter-killer thou :-( not heard of the others, except the one from tool, there’s a great bit on the new album where he does a drum fill on just the bass, from singles to triplets to fourths to sixteenths to 32’s in very quick order, it sounds amazing! but other than that i don’t really listen to tool, they’re very good but i don’t like the sound that much, it’s too abrasive on the ears.

..ermm

*tries to think of other great drummers*

wosisface, the old nin drummer who carried on playing after his head got cut open by a microphone stand that trent threw, using one hand on snare and the other holding a towel to his head. that was cool.

I think the thing Dave Grohl has been doing and still does is very impressive. The man recorded the debut album of the Foo’s practically by himself, he can sing, play the guitar, and drum perfectly! Especially regarding the fact that it wasn’t very long after Kurt Cobain’s suicide, I respect the man a lot!

I think Fyfe’s drumming had a lot to do with me getting into Therapy? so much, but still years after he left I still enjoy Therapy? a whole lot so there’s certainly something in what the other band members do :) I don’t think Graham is a brilliant drummer, but he’s good enough and more importantly he fits nicely as a person.

Oh, and Next to you is on a bootleg 7’ single together with Invisible Sun (the song they did for Peace Together). It’s supposed to be rare but I just picked up an absolutely great copy of it. The song itself apparantly is Therapy? plus Sting (of the Police) from a French tv show. I like it a lot.

Yah i saw it on youtube,
it was great seeing Sting with T?
Sting never really managed to be a frontman without his bass,
he just stands still like a plant.
And he looks as if he has cold, but that’s just his body language.

Anyone ever heard any reactions of what Sting thought of Therapy? At that time?

And as for Fyfe,
Each person has his unique style,
But in my opinion - i don’t listen to T? after Infernal Love,
Cause Times changed…
They got sober - changed the style of music,
and the newer stuff is just trying to repeat the past.

As a drummer under the influence of Fyfe i could say,
Yes Fyfe is the best.
But i guess it’s a matter of taste.
But for me T? quit the day Fyfe left the band.

Each to their own opinion, of course, but I’m with Gimme on this one.

And either they “changed style of music” or “trying to repeat the past” - surely they can’t be doing both? :)

Well, i do have the newer T? stuff on cd…
But i don’t really listen to it.
I couldn’t name 5 titles of songs after infernal love…
Therapy? Was a major influence on drums for me..
So in a way Fyfe’s drumworks enterd my drummers hall of fame LOL

They changed style of music,
Fyfe Wanted More techniqual music and by 1996 T? wanted more punkish? sound…(i’m carefull with this cause you can’t really put a style on those guys, there a genius mix of all).
But in my opinion - now, there trying to get back to the old Therapy? past,
wich is impossible, cause times change.

But we’ll see - the new album is almost there :)

Surely though the change from troublegum to infernal love which you seem to be happy with is bigger than any other change the band ever went through, and how exactly are they trying to get back to their past, I dont think they are but if you let me know the reasons behind your thinking it maybe I can see where your coming from.

Well, listen to the jams on youtube they did for the new album,
If you listen close to the guitars and drums,
You can hear there trying to get back the groove from the earlyer era.
