Some great films coming out this year!…

…that I think WOMbles might be interested in!

I’m quite excited about:

1) Inland Empire (new Lynch weirdness)
2) Diary of The Dead (new Romero zombie madness)
3) Zodiac (new Fincher about the serial killer)
4) 28 Weeks Later (sequel to 28 Days Later)
5) Grindhouse (cheap and nasty Tarantino / Rodriguez double bill!)
6) Simpsons movie (this summer)
7) Day Of The Dead remake (hey, the ‘Dawn’ remake was better than I was expecting)
8) Hostel 2
9) I Am Legend (zombie / vampire movie based on the book of the same name starring Will Smith. Has already been adapted as the Omega Man starring Charlton Heston and The Last Man On Earth starring Vincent Price before).

Anyone else excited about any of these, or any other films, or have seen any of ‘em already? I think Inland Emire and Zodiac are already out elsewhere, but as usual, N Ireland is lagging behind :(

Do you have a date for diary of the dead?
Romero is a legend…

As for “Day of the dead” remake…the clips on youtube
are terrible!!!

But apperantly there is discussions to make “Dawn Of The Dead 2” the same director again…Universal are very intersed because the Dawn did so well and got rave reviews!

I only saw the Dawn remake for the first time when it was on Channel 4 a few weeks ago - was really impressed, wasn’t expecting much at all. It’d be great if they made a sequel, didn’t know they were planning one.

There’s no date for “Diary” yet - it’s completely finished and ready to go, but Romero hasn’t got a US distributor yet, although he does have a European one, and has already made a profit on it!

It was filmed like Blair Witch, and is very low budget

October 28, 2004 — Director Zack Snyder told SCI FI Wire that Universal Pictures has already approached him to make a follow-up to his hit zombie remake Dawn of the Dead, but that the movie won’t be a remake of George Romero’s own sequel, Day of the Dead.

Hmm - you’d think there’d be more about it by now if that story came out over 2 years ago though… although I do hope it goes ahead.

Am also quite intrigued by 28 Weeks Later - ‘tis about the aftermath of the first film, in which Britain was almost completely depopulated. The US army arrive in England and try to recolonise it. Sounds like there’ll be a lot of Iraq parallels etc.

And people getting their faces eaten off by the living dead of course ;)

Zodiac should be great.
Go to http://www.wikipedia.com and find Zodiac Killer on that.. very interesting to read.

28 weeks later! I am suprised, I didnt think they’d make a sequel. 28 days later was awesome.. I’m properly chuffed now :D

@Dermot:
The undead starved after 28 days.. 28 weeks.. surely everything will be starved by then? Apart from maybe a few animals.

well the director of Dawn was making his new movie “300” which is hitting the cinemas…

but apperantly on a few websites it has been mentioned…

it was the most successful zombie movie ever grossing (great choice of word) over 59m…

So I’m sure a sequal could be on the cards…

Yeah, I’ve read that before. Ever read his letters? They’re completely f**ked up (as you might expect!) They read like early Therapy? lyrics!

Hmm. Well, you’re right, it was implied at the end of the first one that they were starving… who knows. It’s a different director for the sequel, maybe he’s just hoping we’ve forgotten :)

Yeah totally insane.. I spent about 4 hours a few weeks ago one evening reading tonnes and tonnes of killers profiles. It’s fascinating, though they are sick.

They never caught him either.

I’ve seen a few of these now, I’ll do some quick reviews:

1) Inland Empire - 9/10 Lynch’s masterpiece though a bit too long
2) Diary of The Dead - still no release date
3) Zodiac - 10/10 Not a slasher movie, more of an epic in the style of something like The Godfather. One of the best films I’ve ever seen.
4) 28 Weeks Later - 5/10 great first ten minutes, it’s all downhill from there
5) Grindhouse - still no release date, might not even be coming out in the UK at all - annoying cos it got rave reviews in the US
6) Simpsons movie - out soon
7) Day Of The Dead remake - This got put back to Halloween
8) Hostel 2 - 3/10 rubbish
9) I Am Legend - coming out on 4 January 2008 now

I also saw

Sunshine - 6/10 poor man’s Event Horizon
Science Of Sleep - 7/10 poor man’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (but still quite good)

Apart from Pirates of the Caribbean 3, I probably won’t see a single new film all year, unless you include the U2 live thingy they are gonna be doing in cinemas, but that’s not really a film, is it?

Seen a trailer of it and even with my biased goggles off it’s gonna be absolutely fanfuckingtastic.

Never been a fan of JD, to be honest, but I find the whole story behind them is just fascinating. From the footage of Curtis, the guy was an electric frontman, but totally not in a usual way.

from that original list i have only seen zodiac and 28 weeks later.

zodiac was a great story but just way way too long.

28 weeks later was fantastic. i preferred it to the first which i never thought i would.

some others that spring to mind: sunshine was great until the last alf hour when it just became rediculous.

this is england was my vote for best film of the year so far. unnerving, wrong, cathartic but ultimately rewarding. one of those “requiem for a dream” type films where you loved it but you knew that it was just all so so wrong.

and of course, hot fuzz. a giggle a minute. top stuff.

right, back to work.

anton corbijn always tends to make things a bit too arty farty for my liking. i’m assuming it’ll be in black and white. and also, how long has this film been in production? it seems that the rumours started about a decade ago.

i wonder how it’ll end. :D

Yeah, like I said up there, ‘twas great. Only reason I didn’t give it 10/10 is cos it was a bit overlong. You’re right Fire Walk With Me is a bit silly but good :)

The Auto Surgeon wrote:

I forgot, I went to see that too. My girlfriend forced me, and I was getting ready for a *long* two hours, but to my surprise I really really enjoyed it :) Fight scenes are great, and it’s much better than Crouching Tiger and all that other guff! 8/10

Went to see this movie called Paris, je t’aime last night. It’s basically twenty short films each done by a different director (the likes of Gus Van Sant, Coen brothers, Wes Craven) set in a different sector of Paris on the theme love. Some of them are better than others obviously but overall I’d give it 7.5/10
