The Pianist, just for being one of the most harrowing films i have ever seen.

It makes you realise how depressing war and small mindness really is.

Dogma - now that was thought provoking :D

Good call on that one! Even my parents loved it for that points it made..so much so I got my old man the bobble head Buddy Christ for his TV set :p

Apocalypse Now (and the original story it’s based on Heart of Darkness) brings up some interesting questions, especially in today’s day an age.

Clockwork Orange too.

Surprised that nither This is England, American History X or Romper Stomper have been mentioned. I mean, talk about things to think about hours after seeing them.

I hope most right thinking people didn’t find those films thought provoking - I would say ‘This is England’ and ‘American History X’ were pretty cut and dried in terms of both storyline and morality. I haven’t seen Romper Stomper as I was advised a long time ago that I would hate it.

To be honest - if you couldn’t get anything out of those two films then, you should give Romper Stomper a miss

What do you mean? I loved This is England and American History X! I just wasn’t left with much to think about. Great films, but I didn’t think anything after seeing them that I didn’t think before I went in.

My bf (god I hate that term!) told me I would hate Romper Stomper because he knows I don’t like graphic violence and he reckoned it was beyond what I could stomach.

I found it wasn’t so much the actual violence (as there’s about as much in the first couple of episodes of The Sweeney), but how much racial hatred was inferred in the film.

Interesting little number for Crowe’s first major role.
