Make A Compilation Thread

#

Started by Divers (Simon)

I personally like making compilations for friends, and it’s also a good way of getting across the sort of music you enjoy. So if you were going to make one what would you put on it? (dennis it’s your chance to make one YOU like!!)
I’ve gone for the old school cassette format of about eight songs per side.

Side A
Emperor- The Eruption
Misfits- Hybrid Moments
Jimmy Cliff- The Harder They Come
The Melvins - Bar x The Rocking M
Two Lone Swordsmen- Sex Beat
The Cure- Pictures Of You
The Descendents - Hope
Money Mark- Hand In Your Head

Side B
Herb Alpert- Spanish Flea
QOTSA- If Only
Frank Black- Horrible Day
Faith No More- Gentle Art Of Making Enemies
Arthea and Donna- Uptown Top Rankin
Elliot Smith- Needles In The Hay
Lovage - Pit Stop
Dead Kennedys- Viva Las Vegas

If other peoples look good then it’s an easy way for me to make a playlist for my ipod;)

mind you, when everyone sees my choices, they may prefer the ones I do at work. *still thinking about the video to Babooshka by Kate Bush cos he used the song earlier..*

Man this is hard!

Side One:
Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone
Catatonia - Lost Cat
Lemonheads - L’il Seed
New Order - Run
Billy Bragg - The Price I Pay
Electrafixion - Low Down
Swervedriver - Never Lose That Feeling
Morrissey - Speedway

Side two:
Cardigans - For What It’s Worth
Sleeper - What Do I Do Now
Prince - I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man
The Jam - Get Yourself Together
Rolling Stones - Before They Make Me Run
Oasis - Headshrinker
Motorhead - We Are Motorhead
Manic Street Preachers - Condemned To Rock n Roll

I have consciously picked quite a few tracks where I wouldn’t normally listen to that band/ artist much, so that it justifies using the one stand-out track on a compilation.
I haven’t bothered, for example, to include any Smiths songs as a)it’s impossible to pick one and b) I’d have a tape full of Smiths stuff if I had the choice.

I’ll try and come up with something over the next day or two. Come on Oasis, Catatonia, Sleeper… Think we should all do a whip round for ya and get you some decent albums. Maybe a sponsered walk or a cake sale as well cause its gonna take a few quid to get you back on track. ;) :D

All looks quite good to me.. i always go for Want by Jawbreaker on comps… don’t know why just love the song. Also You should check out the drummer from snuffs new band…it’s called Billy Nomates.. doesn’t sound to far from snuff, but i guess neither did guns n wankers..or dogpiss??

I wouldn’t put Want on a compilation - it means too much to me. It’s sacred :)

I will look out for Billy nomates then. I have to say I saw Snuff at the Cockpit a couple of years back and they were absolutely terrible! :( I have it on good authority that they are never usually like that, but on that particular occasion they were just piss poor. Mind you it was the Cockpit …

I saw snuff at a festival when slipknot were on the main stage… cracking stuff, so must have been an off night. It was just nice when people were getting their heads kicked in down in the main arena, to have match of the day theme tune and the likely lads blasted at you and a feel good factor in some small tent:)

I saw billy nomates supporting Me first… they did snuff songs as well, you couldn’t really tell the difference;)

Anyway, I must be away to the quiz. I expect I’ll see you sometime next week - try not to crash anything! ;)

I was going to start a thread like this, where every WOMble posts one song to make a huge Wall Of Mouths compilation tape, which I would then attempt to download!

But anyway, this is fun :D

Side One:
Liars - Be Quiet Mt. Heart Attack!
Therapy? - Punishment Kiss
Spacemen 3 - Losing Touch With My Mind
T.S.O.L - Code Blue
The Black Heart Procession - Why I Stay
Slint - Washer

Gang Of Four - Natural’s Not In It

Side two:
The Jesus And Mary Chain - Here Comes Alice
The Fall - Overture For ‘I Am Curious, Orange’
Elliott Smith - Satellite
Arab Strap - Stink
Whipping Boy - Tripped
Animal Collective - Leaf House
Panda Bear - Take Pills
The Mountain Goats - Shadow Song

Man, that was tough!!

My favourite mix so far is probably Divers’, then Taunty Dan’s (he loses out cos it’s rock the whole way through!)

EDIT: hm - actually, it’s too close to call!
