To be fair the guys played a cracking set and Ginger was pissing about, jamming and smiling much more than any Wildhearts gig I’ve seen before. At the end he said as there was no backstage they were going to stand with their backs to the crowd and to pretend they weren’t there (rather than go offstage before encore). The Wildhearts deserve better than this type of venue, as do other bands.
That’s the same encore routine they pulled in Blackpool - I think the small shithole gigs are absolutely brilliant - me and my alcoholic diabetic drinking buddy both thought that it was one of the best gigs we’d been to - and we’re the crack whores of the gigging world - I’ve seen Fungus 3 times firchristssake.
It’ll be good to see them playing in bigger venues later in the year, but I think this last tour was probably the best I’ve seen them live.

Dunno, after their shock and awe blitzkrieg gigging in the late 90’s early 00’s where they would play anwhere with a bar and an amplifier as long as someone else would go onstage after, I bought the single “a fanclub would be nice” which was pretty good (and quite a funny title.) Then off the back of that I bought their next single (Real Me) which was wank, at which point they sank without a trace.
