Interesting…I’m not a fan of widdley…

but they did compare the album to Metallica’s Master of Puppets…

So Metallica do tend to get widdley…

though Master of Puppets was their best!

I just got it, and i myust say the first song drags on, its 10 minutes long of the same old same old to be honnest.

from that song i dont wanna hear much more of these guys and their typical conventional ‘safe’ metal.

I am enjoying the album alot… I’m not really a big fan of theirs.. i own the first album which i personally think is a bit hit and miss.. but this one has lots of very strong songs..really good production, yes they do seem to be in soloing moods but it adds to the songs in a good way. Couple of bits in each song which i find cheesy but a return to form:)

I heard the track they included on Metal Hammer’s cover CD this month - Aesthetics Of Hate - very good in an old-school kind of way but it’s very easy to tick the boxes of influences, not particularly original.

In fact, it sounds like a Master of Puppets track but with superior production (and drumming *ducks flying brick from Squall’s direction*).

I think it is the strongest Machine Head effort to date and that the album is without a filler.

Has been a long time since a band has released a decent thrash effort. I would pick this over “Burn your eyes” as the guitar playing is far superior - looks like Rob got some practice in prior to recording. Drumming is pretty awesome as per usual.

Hope they play Dublin soon again.

I heard the rocksound CD song and when I had finished laughing, binned it!

Where’s all the original heavy bands?? We had Sabbath in the 60’s, punk in the 70’s, thrash in the 80’s, Korn in the 90’s and what have we had this millenium?? Crap all! Laughable old dross thats been done a million times. Boring.

There are harmony and solo duell sections, but they are balanced out by fine thrash riffing and rhytmic excellence.

If you like Machine Heads Nu Metal days you will be let down, if you like Burn my Eyes and Through the Ashes of Empire, I think you will like this as it is basically taking it all to the next level.

Machine Head are awesome. The Blackening is a brutal record and in my opinion they are the finest band in the genre right now. This album is (rightly) getting a lot of praise but I still rate Through the Ashes of Empires as their best.
