My tribute to Therapy?

#

Started by RR0849

I’ve enjoyed Therapy’s music for half of my life and I want to share my tribute to them as a big THANK YOU for making my life better.

I play guitar, write songs etc. and for my first personal custom order guitar I took various specs from Andy’s guitars. I wanted to have a guitar that felt right for those Therapy riff moments. :D So here is what I came up with. It took 14 months for Jackson Custom Shop to build it but it was worth the wait. Here are front/back pics:

Lightweight mahogany, neck-thru, ebony board, short scale, fat neck etc. Kinda like a Gibson SG and Explorer combined in Jackson CS style.

And here is a YouTube video of me playing some parts from my Therapy tribute song with it:

I’ll post the full song MP3 when the vocals are done.

Thanks for looking! :)

You’ve got a good thick sounds from it though, but have to agree with squall. I’ve never been one for Jackson’s, bloody Floydd Rose Trem’s.

What pickup’s have you got dude? Are they Seymour Duncans and what were you plying through as I have to admit the sound is close to what I got for

Thanks! :)

I don’t use whammy bars so I ordered the guitar with regular Gibson style tunamatic bridge.
Pickups are new Duncan 59s. They are nothing special and I plan on changing for older ones soon. I use a Marshall Jubilee 50W stack driven by Ibanez STL pedal (just for boost).

Some great riffs there, but wouldn’t it make sense to, err.. actually work a few of T?’s own in there?

Why don’t you just get a black SG, or if you can find it, a white one.

I’ve owned SGs, LPs etc. but sold them. Nothing wrong with those but personally I prefer Custom Jacksons. Also I’m not aiming to copy Andy - I just wanted to pay tribute since he is one of my all time favorite musicians/songwriters. :)

I have a SG for 1 year, I’m glad about it. For a long time I’m interested by jacksons guitars. Yours is absolutly great. Indeed I feel well with some models of guitar like certain Gretsch or Guild (acoustic), telecaster & LP

Do you mean a custom Gibson ? A white one’s good idea anyway?

There are white SG Standards (although very rare) but I think he meant SG Custom like Andy’s.

If anyone is interested here is a rough mix (a little too dark) of the whole song:

i really dig that tune. you have some good chops there and a great playing style. catchy riffs with catchier melodies.
why are you making home demos instead of playing in a band with material that good?
i never liked jackson so i’m not a fan of the guitar although your sound is pretty good.
what software are you using for the drums? doesnt sound too bad. i just started using & loving the beta monkey drum loops, check them out… http://www.betamonkeymusic.com/
the double bass mania dvds are awesome!

Thanks all! :)

I used to be in an active band years ago but I just don’t have the time at the moment. 3 kids, work etc. I just enjoy music as a hobby but once I get my demo CD finished I’ll try to see if I could get it released by some small label.

I’m using Roland TD6V sound module. I also have Alesis SR16. I have a very old PC so software drums are out of the question although I think I could get better results with them. I just don’t want to mess with my recording setup cause it’s been running nicely for a long time.
I’ll check that website out - Thanks!

i wouldnt change your set up either, the td6v & sr16 are awesome… that alesis was my first drum machine and taught me how to program and sequence before i moved onto software beats.
the beta monkey loops are great if you decide to go in that direction. you can hear some demo riff ideas i made using thier loops on the 3rd & 4th tunes at http://www.purevolume.com/archstantonporno.
although, the sound quallity on purevolume really sucks compared to myspace.
i had some complete tunes using beta beats on a myspace page but it got deleted… bastards!
lemme know what you think?

Good stuff! I only have crappy speakers here at work but I’ll check the tunes again from home. Did You use Line6 or some other modelling unit for the guitars?

i just plugged direct into the computer and used the modern rock effect in garage band that i use for recording. you loose alot of sound quallity uploading to purevolume so the tracks dont sound half as good as they did on the myspace page.
i gave your vid another view and noticed the guitar rack in the background. what other guitars and equipment do you own? i’ve bought & sold so many amps over the last year it’s disgusting… everything from vintage 1960’s fenders to modern framus heads but i’ve still not found the sound i want!
i used to use esp guitars but i picked up a mid range schecter by chance last year and spent a month adjusting the neck, bridge etc to my settings (i use a wierd tuning… b,f#,b,e,f#,b) and now it’s the best guitar i’ve ever owned!

Here are my current guitars:

I went through most of the stuff out there and that’s what has stayed. Currently I’m having a custom V built by Amfisound guitars.

As for amps I’ve been using a Marshall Silver Jubilee stack for 5-6 years now. I use Ibanez STL pedal for overdrive. I also have a Sansamp GT-2 for direct recording which I really like. I went through the digital modellers but they are not for me.

I think I found my sound when I got the Jubilee Marshall and Ibanez STL combo. Before that I kept changing gear monthly. I’d still like to add a delay/chorus unit that I would be happy with.

Stand In Line - I’m downloading Your tribute now. :)
