Bob Marley’s Exodus

#

Started by fatboy

I bought something that I don’t normally listen too - the late Bob’s Exodus album. I saw a programme about it the other night and since I needed cheering up, I bought a copy, and what a great album it is. I’ve listened to loads of ska, but not that much reggae.

Glad I bought it.

Funny that, I saw the same programme and was thinking about making a first-time foray into the Bob Marlye catalogue too.

Fascinating film, very clever how they put everything in context with clips of what was going on in the world at the time - nothing preachy and explicit, just an ongoing background to the story.

And, wow, did you see how much weed some of those rastas were smoking?! I am amazed he could find his way onto the stage and sing at all…!

I’m a very big Marley fan… but I’ve never rated the Exodus that much, it’s probably in my bottom three with Confrontation and Natty Dread. Catch A Fire, Up Rising and Rastaman Vibration are the best three.

Really?

Before I bought the album, the only stuff I had heard of his was on the Legend album, but then again, half of Exodus is on that album.

All personal taste mate:)

I guess Exodus was when he was at his most commercial, and I prefer the harder Reggae albums he put out. Catch A fire I like the most as it still has the original Wailers instead of Bob with lots of session players. So you have two other singers sharing the leads which make it more interesting.
