I got sucked into Fopp! in Nottingham by a vortex and forced to choose from their very cheap selections. I took a punt on a couple of artists/bands I’d not heard at all

Izzy Stradlin - River (£2)
Super Furry Animals - Songbook (The Singles) (£3)
Pearl Jam - Ten (£3)
Lamb of God - Sacrament (£3)
Thin Lizzy - Fighting (£5)

Lamb of God was a “blind” purchase. Not really my kind of thing but the song Redneck was worth the 3 quid so I’m happy.
The Pearl Jam is better than I remembered it - most enjoyable - and the SFA is just weird. In a good way.

doh…indeed it is.
i always get that one and new american gospel [the first one] mixed up.
the fact that it was bought for 3 quid also threw me a bit. thats a bargain.
my favourite album is ashes in the wake, every tune on that album is awesome. it was actually playing laid to rest on guitar hero 2 that got me into them

hahaa, my favorite artists aint been updated in ages.

old pendulum is good, new pendulum is horribly cliche average nme fodder, though i must admit theres one or two catchy songs on the album, but not in the good way.

What happened was that when it went into liquidation (or whatever the correct term is), a small number of the shops were snapped up by a third party and kept alive, even though most of them were closed down completely. The one I went into was in Nottingham - Probably a shrewd place to have a cheap music shop with all those students around.

Very much enjoying it, good stuff. Mind you, the fact that Frank Beard now has a goatee beard kind of destroys years of him being “the only one in ZZ Top WITHOUT a beard”. If I were Gibbons and Hill I’d lynch the fucker.

Oh and Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding cos it was cheap and Iron Maiden - Dance of Death cos I have somehow scratched my copy and it keeps skipping.

I didn’t know that - then again I don’t know a great deal about the Replacements. - is it similar kinda stuff to the happy clappy songs on ‘Singles’?
