Radiohead - In Rainbows

#

Started by Dermot

Anyone “bought” this yet?

http://www.inrainbows.com/

I tried to pay £3 but they kept rejecting my card, saying my bank wouldn’t authorise it - so I ended up just paying nothing :o

Can’t wait to hear it when I get in :)

The dude on the BBC website was quite scathing about the Radiohead album, actually. Said it was more of the same, as if they’re stuck in a rut, and that bypassing the record companies was all well and good for established bands but that it actually threatens the future of new bands, if money for investment isn’t there.

Hmmm, could be quite a contentious issue, this “pay whatever you like” thing.

I saw that review too. He said his favourite album by them was Pablo Honey though - says it all really :o

Personally, I think it’s a good thing - but we shall see

Yeah, does kind of give it away when he mentions Pablo Honey, though I will give myself away by saying that it’s a toss up between that and the Bends for me too.

Ah well, y’see my favourite album is Kid A… giving myself away as being pretentious here ;) Oh well, someone has to :D Thought Thom Yorke’s solo album was great too.

I’m not a massive fan or anything but am always interested in what they’re doing. Them and Morrissey would probably be the 2 acts I’ve never seen live that I would really like to.

I don’t think you can really make a fair judgement of an album after such a short time, dude, give it a chance, at least!

If I like it, I will then pay £5 for it…

If the website works, that is..

I haven’t even heard of this. Funny thing is I started listening to Radiohead again only last week and I was wondering what took them so long to come up with a new album.

Pablo Honey is their best album :p I haven’t actually bothered to listen to anything since OK Computer, really went off them. Am I to assume that it would be a waste of 0p to download this? I don’t think I’d feel right getting it for free anyhow so I’d have to pay and then I’d be annoyed if it was crap. Are you allowed to make a donation afterwards, based on how highly you rate it? Much better plan.

It’s really not that bad. I only heard a sneeky intro to one song off a friend and it had a kickass bass line. Definetly worth more than 0p.

I’m not sure what exactly happened to RH after OK Computer, this is where they lost me and I’m guessing this new release will continue to loose me

My bus to work didn’t turn up this morning so I was half an hour late which was bad. But the silver lining is that I got to listen to this twice through :) Favourite song is probably ‘Nude’. I’d say it’s worth a pound or 2

Yeah - it defeats the whole purpose of this experiment, but if I’m going to pay for downloadable albums in the future they’d better start releasing them at a higher bitrate, 160 isn’t acceptable.

I doubt a higher bit rate would make it any more listenable. I think it might actually be WORSE than amnesiac !

I must admit, they lost me with Pyramid Song, which is just the sound of a band being difficult for the sake of it.

I loved the Bends…every time John Peel ( RIP ) played a song off it - i knew I had to have it. Then OK Computer came out, and that was a real let down at the time, it came out the same year as Be Here Now, and for my money, I was 18 at the time, it was summer and I wanted to listen to upbeat rock and roll rather than miserable difficult music. Of course, 10 years later i’m not huge on either of those albums. Kid A was alright as a one off - had some nice tunes and was interesting…but then Amnesiac was more of the same - but worse !!! Hail to the thief was supposed to be Ok Computer part 2 according to the band themselves but still contained annoying noise tracks with crap lyrics and vocals…4 years later - they bring this…No Wonder They Let You Download It For Free ! :D
