If you’re only prepared to give albums a couple of listens then it’s no wonder you don’t like the new Radiohead album.

I really like the new album, the songs are much better formed compared to the last few albums… and there is a lighter even up beat feel to the sound and the songs which is a nice surprise from them.
I think it’s a interesting experiment, i would like to hear what the out come is in a few months and if it worked… the record companies are going to hate it which i like.
I’m going to see what money i have and i think i will get the boxset.. i like having a real copy and also the vinyl looks great.

I’ve listened to it three or four times. I like it. Is it worth a four year wait? Maybe not, but luckily I wasn’t waiting four years for a Radiohead album to come out. :)

oh my life! i can’t believe folk are still rattling on about the Bends and OK Computer!!! Great albums sure, but they’re not going to make them again are they?! i got the new album and i’m really enjoying it. There seems to be more depth with every listen. Well worth the wait and hats off to them for the manner in which it was released.

I really wish I could get into this album, I probably will one day in the future. my music taste seems to switch from liking straight up music to liking electronic stuff, right now im in full on mode.
I still though dont think this album is a patch on The Bends or Kid A

‘Ok computer’ is the best album ever though.

Every song is the same. Thom Yorke winging on and on about nothing much at all.

This may say something about human nature (i.e. if people have the choice between “free” and “pay something”, most will pick the box marked “free”. No great shocker there, huh?) or it may be down to the fact that when it comes to an “album” band/ artist, whose music is considered to have some element of longevity, people would actually, shock horror, rather have a CD. I suspect a large number of people who downloaded for free did so expecting to pay for a CD release later on. Of course, human nature says that some of them won’t ever bother to buy the CD, but I think the intention is there.
So, maybe downloads haven’t replaced CD’s after all?
There’s a difference between downloading a tune cos you heard it on the radio and fancy having it on your iPod to listen to a few times whilst it is new and having a full album that you take the time to get to know and to get under your skin. Neither is “better” or more valid than the other, but I think it is time record companies appreciated the many varied ways in which people approach and listen to music, and then maybe they may start actually, gasp, giving people what they want.

Nah. I’m not particularly bothered about haivng the physical CD unless it’s a favourite band. I paid a few quid for the initial download as I supported the idea, then was disappointed to find it was low quality (160 kb)…so I’ve done what I said I was going to do, found it encoded in FLAC (lossless CD-quality) on a Torrents site and downloaded it off there.
They’re selling the FLAC version on 7digital.com for a tenner which I thought was a bit steep, the actual CD can’t cost much more than that?

I went and got the boxset, so it’s on lovely vinyl and you also get the CD and the Bonus CD of the other tracks recorded for the album. It’s a cool package and I felt was worth the money.

I saw Radiohead many years ago. About ‘97 probably, maybe that same tour *can’t be arsed rummaging through box of memorabilia*. I remember Thom E Yorke was in the crowd to watch the support band. We eyed him for ages, then more people started catching sight of him and he had to run away. It seemed a shame since he was clearly enjoying himself :(

Alas, Ireland is probably the most expensive place in Europe to see a gig. The main promoter here is MCD and they basically have a monopoly. I live in Spain and got my QOTSA ticket here for €23. In Dublin I believe it costs €45. Total rip off.
Back on topic, haven’t heard the new album, but have been listening to Radiohead a lot lately, so will pick up a copy in the next few days.
