New foo fighters album?

Sent me to sleep - which was a shame cause I was driving at the time…

LOL! Have you tried vodka? knocks me right out. just remember to have a big glass of water ready to drink before you go to sleep so you’re not hungover the next day.

when you’re trying to sleep, try thinking of nothing but your breathing, and the shape of your mouth, don’t form any words, just focus on that one object, the continous breathing.

that used to help for me.

and don’t have any caffine or you’ll mess your sleeping cycle up even more :P

Don’t drink or ingest stimulants during the day
Mrs h swears by lavender oil on your pillow but all it did for me was make me smell like an old lady

Try having more sex and getting more exercise. Avoid weed and stimulants like caffine

Yes - though we must be in a minority as most people seem to think weed helps them sleep. Sometimes has the opposite effect on me as my mind works overtime and so can’t switch off = insomnia.

I get exactly the same thing. And even when you do get to sleep, when you wake up you’re MORE tired if anything…

There’s nothing like having a really good refreshing sleep on a clear head - sounds sad but it’s true! :-)

Did I ever tell you about that time when…lol, you’ll like this, funny story this…well, what happened was, there was me, Dan…no wait, it wasn’t Dan it was Divers. Me and Divers…hold on, it must have been Dan come to think of it…anyway, me and Dan, and what happened, you’ll never believe it, well you should cos it happened, but you know what I mean, anyway…etc etc etc

Or to put it another way: If MY story-telling doesn’t send you into a deep sleep, you are incurable.

Well that’s got to be an improvement! :p

Sometimes I hypnotise myself to get to sleep, which is very easy once you’ve mastered the art. It’s a bit long to explain on here though :(

This happens to me sometimes either. A good way to stop it is dont go to bed and keep awake most of the next day. Just to kill the hard time staying awake with coke of coffee in the morning/noon. Make sure u drink enough that it helps you through the afternoon/ early evening. Go to bed at 8.00 PM. Wake up early in the morning and feel fresh like free little bird :p
It brings me back into the usual rhythem not go to bed too late and to get up early in the morning.

My explaination for my insomnia. Too much booze at friday and saturday nights keeps me all day long in bed at the weekend. I guess thats the real reason why most people hate mondays :P

^ Drinking caffeine even in the morning is a really bad idea. It has a half life of 5 or 6 hours so if you have a strong cup of coffee, the caffeine can still be in your system 10 - 12 hours later at bedtime, and even if you get to sleep it can effect quality of sleep.

Here are my tips - from one insomniac to another.

Avoid any caffeine throughout the day.
Have a shower before bed
Wash your bedding so its clean and smells good and is comfortable.
Make sure your room is not too hot / too cold
Some people say watching tv before bed is bad but i find it relaxing and the more boring the better - whatever works for you i guess.
If you are having trouble drifting off, try getting up, watching tv, playing computer etc , so youre not stuck there trying to sleep…
Get plenty of excercise in the day.
Try not to just lie there wwaiting to sleep. Bizareely , i just think about stuff
If you are worried about something, just dont think about it, the way I see it, lying there not sleeping wont solve whatever problem you have.
Get into a routine throughout the day.

If it gets really bad - go see a doctor. 10mg of diazepam a night certainly helped me ! :P Although my memory of the previous evening was prone to being wiped clean, which was amusing :D

I’d add that stretching can really help you to sleep. If you can’t sleep, it may partially be that you’re physically not tired, and still ‘wide awake’, even if you’re mentally exhausted. Exercise is generally bad before trying to sleep, but some serious stretching uses up some of the nervous energy that can keep you awake. It’s not enough to just reach out with your arms; you have to stretch almost until it hurts (almost!), arms, legs, hands, back, neck, everything. You can do it while you’re in bed (in fact it’s better if you do). Hold the stretch, (start with your hands and arms) then just let your arms drop, like a string holding them up has been cut. Do your whole body, then repeat the whole thing if you have to. Result: a nice relaxed body tucked up in bed. If your brain is still buzzing, you’ll have to try the other suggestions people have made.
