Quote (author unknown):

The US mix that came with the reissue is more polished, but again that doesn’t detract from it. Some songs are better for it, some worse.

Plus it has Judge Y’rself on it.

I really like the US mix of the Holy Bible… *possibly* prefer it to the original even

i know its all opinions but my mouth fell open when i read ‘The Holy Bible sounds rather polished’!!!! eh??
ok, compared to The Exploited it does

yeah, that’s exactly what I meant. there are rawer punk bands out there and the manics just don’t work as a punk band to me, since they started out as hedonistic gn’r-wannabes and turned into philosophic radiohead-wannabes. that sounds harsh, but i actually prefer them like that. they seem much more comfortable that way.

The audio track is on Lipstick Traces whereas a promo video is on the DVD that came with the Holy Bible reissue.

Exactly. I never said it was on a CD. I just said the song was on the Reissue. Which it is. In some form.

The thing i love about the manix is that no 2 albums sound alike. they went from punk (early), to glam (GT), to metal GATS), to new wave lo-fi(THB), to pop(EMG), to minimalist(TIMT) etc.

must be time for a country album next!

all manics albums sound completely different from one another, yet at the same time they all sound like no other band but the manics.

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the Manics. Saying that I saw them playing with the Foo Fighters at City of Manc Stadium and they were pretty good.

The last album was ace. Lifeblood is totally pants. Everything Must Go and the Holy Bible are essential Manics records.

I’m looking forward to the next album. They said they wanted Steve Albini to do it. The very fact that they’re thinking about it makes me already imagine Holy Bible - esque rawness and shoutyness :D

They’ll never do an album that comes close to the Holy Bible. I just wish they’d stop trying to write “epic” songs and write some “good” ones instead.

i think trying really hard to recreate something they did once before by intuition is a big mistake. the other thing about the Bible is that Richey did 80% of the depressing lyrics which fir that musical style well - Wire’s lyrics are thoughtful at best (This Is Yesterday, La Tristesse) and cheesy as hell at worst (The Convalescent) so they are treading a very fine line here!

Agreed - i’d rather have more lines like ” I am stronger than Mensa. Miller and Mailer, I spat out Plath and PInter ”

and less like ” Lovely labradors outnumber musicians “

Indeed they did, my friend. I thought it was pretty good.
