Sub Pop

#

Started by Kill_Hill (Brendan)

Check out this months Mojo for a crackin spread on Sub Pop as well as another article on Mudhoney. They got 11 people who were there back in the day together in one room. Channing, Peterson, Tad Doyle, Thayil, Ament, Susan Silver…

The cover has Nirvana on the front and says “20 years on… Sub Pop, And the Rise of… Nirvana” I hate when mags use Nirvana to sell mags especially when there are loads of bands on show in the article. Anyway check it out, you get to see what Chad Channing and Kim Thayil look like these days.

Nice Sub Pop cd as well…

They’re not gonna sell magazines by putting tad doyle on the cover are they?!

But yeah, great issue. Great label. Tempted to sign up for their new singles club actually.

Kurt’s only on the cover because the other Seattle/Sub Pop bands are not that well known outside the music press as Nirvana were. I might buy it myself, along with the latest edition of Terrorizer as they have Carcass on the cover.

The reason i am giving out about Nirvana being on the cover is because when i saw it I wasn’t going to bother looking at it because I know enough about Nirvana already but luckly I had a closer look and had a skim through it only to fing there was feck all about Nirvana really.

ya must get that copy of Terrorizer

It’s natural to focus on Nirvana, the label’s biggest success.
It was nice that for the SP20 festival some old bands reunited. I have a recording of the Green Show (Mark Arm and Steve Turner from Mudhones, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam) and they really kicked ass.

And having read the article, Sub Pop never became a big label during the grunge era. But in saying that, they probably have better bands on the label that have no intention of breaking big.

And too right I bought Terrorizer.

I’am a little dispointed because none of you has mentioned a SubPop-produced-band and which were knew 1 or 2 year before Nirvana. At this time, they were as knew as Mudhoney or as T? through the US (they opened for T? while 93 US T? tour by the way). Just to introduce one of the best french noisy punk band called Les Thugs.
I guess some people make fun of me … But if you please keep your opened mind, let me be delighted to share with you who they are in Seattle at 20th ann SubPop. Enjoy !

would be cool to see Green River. I have a PJ bootleg where mudhoney opened and then late in the PJ show they did a mini-reunion. It was great. But that was 1993

What does the issue have with Carcass? Big feature and new photos? Will have to get that sent over if it does.

you can see the cover on the myspace carcass page. The 5 of them are on the cover done up like zombies. Personally i think its a very badly written piece. He only interviewed Jeff, its 4 pages most of which are zombie pics. I was really dissapointed with it to be honest.

think fat boy has read it also, wonder what he thought of it. Though Carcass deserved a better spread, its not as if they are back for good or
anything, a chance lost me thinks.
