If you shrink the image it will lose quality and no one will be able to read it, even if they have a means to zoom in. I think Grant’s idea of hotlinking is probably your best bet.

I haven’t posted A4 images before but I think you could resize it to maybe 1/2 or 3/4 of the actual size (JPG format) and the quality should be good enough for someone to zoom in…post the images as thumbnails on the actual site so that people can click a small image and it pops up as the actual size one (if you’re using the WYSIWYG trial then there’s a “insert image as thumbnail” option)
