Next Year is Troublegum’s 15th anniversary. I know it sold rather well and expanded and remastered re-issues are the in thing at the mo.

I would LOVE a new version of troublegum in a Three - Disc Digipack with old phots, an essay on the album from a hack and B sides, rarities, leftovers, alternate mixes, a DVD of rehearsals, live performances from that era, promo videos etc… :)

What would YOU like to see and do you think it would be a good idea ? Manic Street Preachers did one for THB and EMG, so i dont see why not.

:)

I dont wanna see another retrospective, at least not yet. I’d rather wait ten years or so for a box of rarities spanning the band’s full career rather than a focus on one album. T? have just released Music From A Cheap Transistor and Webgig recently (remember they didnt get enough votes for any songs of their last album) so I would not be happy if there was such a paucity of new material being released. I want new stuff more than this “golden era” nonsense.

If I remember rightly, the Manics Holy Bible had a completely different American mix, which perhaps was a strong reason to release it to fans.

But i like reissues :) And It might help people become aware of troublegum. Or the 2 million that bought it might buy it and the band can continue touring for another 15 years :P

Not really interested in a Troublegum re-issue, as let’s be honest, it still sounds good sonically.

What DOES need re-releasing are Babyteeth, Pleasure Death and Nurse. They need a complete remastering overhaul to bring them to life again in this day and age of audio bombasticness. Or something.

Incidently, Andy has mentioned a couple of times that SP-YF may be re-released with extra tracks and “The Speedo Menace” in the future. Andy certainly seems to see that album as being possibly Therapy’s “classic”.

I think Alan is right with the fact that Troublegum doesn’t need remastering.. i wouldn’t know what you could actually do to it apart from compress it a bit and then make it slightly louder but what would be the point. Apart from B-sides i’m sure if there was any other footage or extras they could put on it they would be out there somewhere by now.

I agree with the first three albums though they could do with a bit of shine, and maybe a whole re-mix for Nurse, that could be the next web gig.. the whole of that album ;)

I am a bit loathed to by albums again, i’m doing the carcass ones but so many albums i love seem to be coming out again with all these extras i do get a bit peeved buying them when they first came out… but i am an old git and like to moan.

I have a better suggestion, something the band can acomplish without universals help. any fan of the wildhearts may know theyre soon playing a 15 anniversary gig for their earth vs album which involves playing the album in full then doing all the bsides from that era.

how cool would that be getting to hear evil elvis live?

They played it live quite a few times not too long ago.

I agree with Alan and Simon, Troublegum doens’t need that, the first 3 albums need it a lot more!
And I’m also still waiting for the SP-YF re-issue with the Speedo Menace video :-)

I know the recording on SPYF is a matter of taste and a part of me appreciates it, but I didn’t start liking the material until I heard it live.

Would be interesting to hear a beefed up version (He’s not that kind of girl totally kicked ass live as does 10 year plan).

no, but they have VERY worthy extra’s for this one, and I doubt they’d have something new from the Troublegum era.

If anything was released or re-released, I think it would negatively affect the band. If, the people who bought say Troublegum and dont know the band even exist now were to get into the band again, then I think it would just increase the emphasis on Troublegum on the setlist. The argument of re-releasing Babyteeth etc is not a great one to me, they are pretty obscure records and this sort of thing would only appeal to completists.

Look at U2, the supposed biggest band in the world, their re-releases of their first three albums are only bought by the most hardcore of their fans, considering their wide appeal it seems like a bit of a fruitless enterprise and even more so for a band of T?’s scale. So economically there isn’t much of an argument. Artistically, unless the band have an actual problem with Babyteeth et al in their current state, then why bother releasing them? Why rehash?

To be honest I quite like the lo-fi tone and low quality of babyteeth and pleasure death. If everybody’s debut album was re-released because it wasn’t a beefy, sheeny, large-sounding album we would have nothing but re-releases in our record stores

Well, I seem to remember Michael saying recently that he’d like to see the older albums remastered. In my opinion, they actually seem to sound worse and worse as the time goes by. So for the bands’ own point of view, I think they’d like to see them revisited. Even if they did it themselves, I don’t think it’s a huge exercise.

Whipping Boy recently re-released their “Submarine” album and they’re broke and still managed it, so unless I’m completely wrong, I don’t think it’s that bigadeal for T? to fund it themselves. If they wanted to. Which may be the case after Michael’s comments.

Sonically at least half of T?’s back catalogue i think could do with a facelift - Nurse, NANE, and the 2 mini albums - well lets just say i can get a better result out of my pc at home with cubase and an argos guitar that was given to me! and i know almost fuck all about computers!

Troublegum is fine as it stands. I think a band should only re-release an album if the original vision didn’t come out in the end result really cos the band and fans deserve to hear it as it was intended to sound.

I’d actually quite like a Troublegum reissue so long as any extra tracks were ones that haven’t been released before (a nice live gig from that era maybe?) and I’d quite like a live DVD from that era too to go with it - maybe the tracks they showed on the telly, from Brixton Academy or wherever it was.
