Therapy? 20th Anniversary!

#

Started by TotallyRandomMike (Mike McGrath-Bryan)

Next year marks twenty years since Therapy? were formed around Andy and Fyfe.

There bloody well ought to be something special to commemorate.

Andy mentioned in the Q&A that a live album would be good, I agree, maybe a double-disc career-spanning set, attractively priced as a potential entry point for newbies?

How about vinyl? Surely reissues of Babyteeth and Pleasure Death wouldn’t be hard to arrange.

That T-shirt reissue campaign that they were talking about before: some of that maybe? I’d like the cushioned question hearts on a t-shirt meself.

Maybe a re-recording in the manner of Exodus or Twisted Sister? Perhaps a twentieth anniversary go-over of the demo material, for website release? Maybe even Caucasian Psychosis?

All of the above sound great!

A compilation has already been done for the tenth anniversary, so anything other than just a standard “best of” would be good.

Good post Mike.
I’ve a feeling the band have something special in mind. The new album was finished in September yet is not being released till next year, so I reckon the band could be planning other releases around the time, to tie in with the new album. Especially since Demolition Records have just signed the band, they should be willing and eager to help out!

It’s been mentioned before that Babyteeth, Pleasure Death and Nurse could all do with a re-mastering job to bring the volume levels in line with the 21st century cos at the moment they sound like listening to a stereo with a sock over it.

I don’t think a live album is the answer, they’ve already had one with the cd release with Scopophobia, and then the webgig was a live album of sorts. There are so many unreleased songs that need to be heard, songs that didn’t make it past demo stage etc. I’d much rather hear a rarities compilation than a live album.

So yeah, remastered re-issues with extra tracks, or a rarities album seperately. C’mon Mikehell, you know you want to.

I’d say re-issue the A&M stuff, remastered with loads of b-sides, remixes, notes of where the band were at that time. And like the recent Carcass reissues, get the boys to be filmed in an interview for a bonus DVD.

That would be brilliant! A decent box-set with stuff like that and something extra that isn’t music, like a re-issue of an early shirt or something like that :-)~
I know I’m greedy, but I just love box-sets!!

I’m still hoping for the Speedo Menace video!!

anything but another live album or a troublegum reissue would be fine with me.

I’d love remastered remixed louder versions of nurse and caucasian psycosis, but might be a bit tricky due to label shit.

I’d love for the band to do an ‘unplugged’ tour and bust out a few rarities.

Yeah I thought labels could be a problem, but then I remember Michael mentioning that he too thought it was a good idea to re-release the old albums, so if it’s a possibility I think they should definately look into it. The Wiiija releases shouldn’t be a problem at all, but ‘Nurse’ could be a bit tricky.

the trouble with bsides and rarities albums is they usually just contain stuff you’ll already have if you own all the singles and maybe one or two new tracks which is uinfair on people who have spent time tracking down singles only for johnny casualfan to go out and get all the bsides on one or two cds for a tenner.

I don’t know if Demolition would be too up for that really, I don’t know what the ownership of some of the tracks is, they probably wouldn’t be too keen on paying various publishing companies for the usage of a song if to be honest very few people other than us are going to buy it. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to see one!

unless the rarities really are raretiesl, like demo’s from songs that never made it and stuff like that :-)
I do prefer rarities above b-sides for the reason Gimme states. Not that I don’t want the casual fan to get the b-sides that easily, but it would be nice there’s something new in it for the collectors, like myself and many others on the boards.

B-sides that have been released would belong to the respective record company, but stuff that has never been released (demos etc), wouldn’t be limited to the same publishing restrictions. That’s why I think a rarities album could work - forget the b-sides, I can make those cdr compilations myself!! :-D

That boxset idea seems mighty tasty. While a live album was done in 2003, five years later there is some top-notch material to be aired live in my opinion: Long Distance, Deluded Son, Hard Work and Hope are three that come to my mind at least.

Or, maybe they could repay the loyalty certain fans have shown them - There are plenty of T? fans with Therapy? tattoos, maybe the band should have tattoos done of all the Therapy? fans, to even out the balance…?

Maybe a cover album with a personal view that resist popular choose; like Wildhearts did. I really can feel the improvement between “Breaking the Law” and “Denim Demon”. İn the other hand the band got great roots, interest in different kind of music. Death punk to post jazz. Clutch, Black Flag, Husker Du…Local bands? Trad Irish songs with punk metal attitude? Lot of ways.
