New U2

Anyone heard the new single yet? Any thoughts?

Here’s a youtube link to a radio rip from this morning. Quality’s not brilliant but you get the general idea..

Some of Bono’s vocal lines sound way too familiar - think he’s quite lazy on this one.

Still looking forward to the album, but I think they tried too hard to launch it with another Vertigo..

I heard it on Chris Moyles this morning - they thought it sounded like the Only Fools and Horses theme and started mixing the two together. I’m not convinced

The more I hear it, the more average it becomes!

I like the “You don’t know how beautiful you are” bit…until Bono opens his gob and sings over the top of it in his not-what-it-used-to-be holler.

I hope the rest of the album is better. It doesn’t grab me like Vertigo or Beautiful day, or even Doiscotheque. But its an experimental album. And albums that you don’l like at first tend to heave more longevity as you grow to like it rather than liking it instantly and getting bored of it a week later ( like Death Magnetic - sick of it already ).

Yeah most of my favourite albums are ones where initially I was like “Um…what?!” but then they get under your skin.

Certainly isn’t up there with Vertigo - which is worrying, cos as good as Vertigo is, it is still quite a throwaway song.
I hope the album is more interesting. And better, frankly.

Tbh - vertigo wasnt even the best thing on the last album. I dont mind experimental as long as its not as bad as Pop ! That album was quite a chore. All the rock songs first then ALL the ballads. . Whoever sequenced that album ?!?!

I digress.. I dont mind experimental as long as its got some good hooks and good sounds and hooks etc. .

Speaking of albums that you initially hate. Six by Mansun :p i absolutely HATED it. Thought it was SHIT. But now its one of my fave albums ever :p

I remember being gutted when I lived in North wales when I thought I saw that Marilyn Manson was playing in Wrexham but it turned out to be Mansun from nearby chester, thank fuck I realised before I begged my mother to take me (was only young at the time).

Thats a truely awful song… the way the verse rhythms reminds me of the theme from “fools and horses” for some reason… well if Bono wanted 2009 to be their year he is going to be VERY disappointed.

anyone seen the album artwork? they seem to think they’re some electronica band on warp or recent nine inch nails or something with that artwork.

“hello, hello, hello!!!” One of the best epidodes, I think!

Bono always wants to be number 1, not number 2. It is in fact because, he IS a number 2 (ie. he’s a piece of shit).
I think one of the characters says something like “Even when Bono does great things for charity, you always think he’s a piece of shit, it all makes sense now… it’s because he IS a piece of shit!!”
