worse band you’ve ever seen live?

#

Started by g (Does everything start with destruction?)

after all the talk of shit bands recently on here its got me thinking about what the worse band i’ve ever seen live is, it only took me 2 seconds to work out, this prestigous honnour goes to INME (I had a vip pass, it was at a festival, the moment they came on about 10 or so annoying teenage girls were in the vip area and started getting chuffed and hyperactive when the band came on stage, I gave them a 2 song chance was absolutley the worse racket I’ve ever heared so I walked out and proceeded to go round the site warning people not to enter the tent)

you lot?

Casey Chaos’ Amen , I really like the band but they were awful when I saw them, it was my first Wildhearts gig and they were support , they played for about 20 minutes before Chaos started jumping off the amps and just being a dick. Also the sound was terrible.

I can’t really remember who was in them at the time Grant , scott sorry possibly, it was mid 03 I believe. It was the first tour with Random Jon with the wildhearts, danny had just gone to rehab before the tour started. Never have seen Danny live with the wildhearts or ginger. Probably won’t now either, haven’t heard what hes doing in a long time. Random is one of the nicest blokes i’ve met though and always enjoyed seeing him.

I have seen some fucking awful support bands (most of whom their names escape me). The only headlining act that I’ve seen that I’ve actually walked out of are the Misfits.

My better half got me tickets to see them because she knew I loved the band (but was unaware of their ‘line-up difficulties’).

Jerry cant sing for shit - so played all the songs at treble the speed - all of their classics were butchered beyond recognition. Half the time you couldn’t even tell what they were playing. It didn’t take us long to decide that if we fucked off now we could get at least two pints in before last orders! so off we went.

Piss poor.

I walked out of a Bright Eyes gig once, that was beyond dire. It was before they had even reached the kind of status where you can afford to cheat people out of a good gig. Can’t think of any others at the moment, but there have certainly been a few…

Last time Marilyn Manson played in Dublin I had backstage access thanks to my chiropractor who was called in by him ( before any of you start , at a certain age you need one !! )
Although the gig was mediocre and I’m not his biggest fan , we met the man and he was very friendly , softly spoken and well-mannered and as a person I’d have absolutely nothing but good to say about him.

Back on topic , years ago I remember The Spermbirds opening for T? in , if memory serves , Noorderligt in Tilburg.
Has to go down as one of the worst musical wise but one of the most entertaining supports ever. Half naked frontman with a bottle of what looked like water with cannabis floating in it in his hands for the whole gig.
He fell of the barrier when he tried to balance on the round bar whilst holding the mic in one hand and desperately trying to hold on to his bottle too. :)

Anyone of the gig nerds any idea what year that was ?

Defenestration - supported T? on a few occassions! Utter shite! Worst ever!
Incubus - Glasgow SECC - left after 3 tracks - truly awful sound, no atmosphere - terrible!
Wildhearts - Joint T? tour - Edinburgh Liquid Rooms - I like the band but this night they were really poor!

First 3 that spring to mind!

A huge pile of boring wank. Haven’t bought or even listened to any of their stuff since, I even switch off the radio when they (used to) come on.

marilyn manson at a festival in 2006 (just so boring, and the new songs were weak … also saw him 1999 and 2002 and he kicked ass)
bob dylan 2003 (well, it’s not easy with him … but a 55minute-set with no support, no thank you to the crowd, and all that for about 55 euros …)
red hot chilli peppers (festival-gig in 2004 i think, good playing-wise, but absolutely boring, no atmosphere)
scooter (yeah i know … some friends like them and one time i was willing to give it a chance … yeah yeah, i know …)

i’m sure i’ve seen plenty more, f.e. loads of local punk/ska/metal-bands …

Don’t know if it was the worst live band i’ve ever seen, but definetly the most disappointing live band i’ve ever seen is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Saw them a few times over the years, and i don’t know what it is about them that makes them sooooooo dull live, but they just are :)

Korn at Newport Centre, May/June 1997, does it for me. I know its easy to slag off the band now but I was a big fan at the time, yet they just dragged on and Jon never said anything to the audience.

It was at this gig that Limp Bizkit opened the show and Fred Durst had a pint thrown over his head before he said a word. Must admit, I thought they were pretty good though like everyone else, I would change my mind on them when they got bigger and Fred in every publication you picked up.

Helmet were also on the bill, and did like them but Page isn’t one for talking to the crowd.

Was that in Newcastle by any chance? One of my favourite bands at the time (when Souljacker came out I think). Hardly able to listen to them since, massive disappointment!

Really? I’ve seen them live 3 or 4 years ago and it was one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.

As for the worsT. I think Garbage takes the crown. Boring, uninspired and an awful crowd. Not even glimpses up Shirley Manson’s skirt could save the evening.

Also pretty tiring: David Bowie in 1998 and Bob Dylan in 1999.

Of course, there were other far worse concerts I’ve attended by completely forgettable bands.

I was pretty underwhelmed by Smashing Pumpkins on the infinite sadness tour.

I’d seen a Siamese Dream era gig on MTV and they were brilliant, so I was expecting them to be great… I think the combination of them being at the MEN (Nynex Arena back then), Billys overwhelming dullness and 20 minute improvised feedback jams breaking up the flow…

I saw Taproot supporting Deftones a few years back. They were pretty bad, they were really hanging on coat tails of all the nu-metal bands of the time.

I’ll second Defenestration as being particularly shite, remember them supporting T? at Rock City. I actually saw an advert for them playing in Kettering a few months ago, couldn’t believe they’re still going.
