Great North Run

#

Started by caffeinebomb (Caffeine Bomb)

I am running the Great North Run in september. It has a reputation for being one of the hardest half-marathon’s in the world, and I haven’t run further than the chip shop in over 10 years.

I am ACTUALLY going to die.

Please donate a bundle of cash to the Prince’s Trust in the off-chance I survive.

In fact - do that even if I don’t.

I did the GNR back in 2003, so I know exactly what you have ahead!
As long as you train for it you’ll be fine, plenty of time between now and September to get prepared, easily.

I don’t think I have ever appreciated a pint as much as the one in the pub at the end of that run. I still think back to its frothy glory now all misty-eyed and nostalgic…

A tip for training - no matter how wrecked you get and feel you can’t go on (unless you are physically about to pass out) - get yer head down and keep fucking going!
Load up on the carbs, wholemeal foods, good proteins, iron, cut out the chocolate and fizzy drinks

Are you using me as an excuse.

But seriously, I couldn’t do the run myself, though I’d be happy to chip in a few quid

Ok - maybe I’ll do it later when I’ve worked out if I can trust the site.

Do you remember Chunky? I sponsored him 40p a mile to do a 17.5 mile walk, but I only sponsored him because I thought it would kill him. The little f**ker did it though - I had to cough up £7 last night!

His mum and dad are really nice, I don’t know his brother really - he worked in the kitchen for a while though and you’re right - you wouldn’t believe they were brothers. And yet you and he are so alike! Strange that isn’t it? I suspect his dad may be more than a mild-mannered janitor, and that there is possibly a bit more to mum than meets the eye, too. Unless there was a terrible mix up at the hospital.
