Its a guy in the woods - and he’s picking up wood, and some of it’s bent (crooked timber! - geddit) :D

I’m sure there are many subtexts to be mentioned and to be missed but I’m gonna avoid even my usual attempt (long time ago, I know!) at those sort of things. All I can say is that I am fking impressed… I love the video, I really do. I hope this gets on the usual run of cable channels - MTV2 and all the rest. (As a random aside, even though the song isn’t like them and the video isn’t at all, there was a little bit of my mind that was screaming “Tool” as I was watching the video… Odd, huh?!) Things that stuck in my brain: Andy doing his white-eyed look - that craziness always helps, I’m sure! Nuff strings on the bass! Neil’s drumming: OK, we’ve all heard the album and we can hear what he’s doing. We’ve also seen him do it in previous tours, but to take the “uc” out of “fk me” again, to see it actually happen: just genius. (This is not to start a drumming argument up: am a great fan of Fyfe and Graham too). Back to the video. I’m not arty enough - I have no idea what the treatment is about! But as a viewer, it works for me. I hope it gets airplay, and I hope that the next one, two, three singles have something as striking to back them up. I have to admit to being completely [insert negative word here] about the If It Kills Me Single and since then I’ve felt cynical. Later videos have been OK but this one feels, er, ‘proper’. Rock ‘n’ roll, eh? Can’t wait for Islington :-) More power to T?!

[ Though I can’t help thinking that if the Bloodhound Gang or Blink 182 ever released a song called Crooked Timber, it would have seriously different undertones. Ahem. ]
