It’s a cunt of a situation alright.

Our office is just limping along at the moment.
Fuck all work to do. And what there is to do is just boring shite.

The workforce has been decimated since Christmas.
About 2/3 have been left go.
Granted! Most were contractors to begin with, but still! A lot of people out of work.

Looks like Easter is going to see another culling.
And its all staff people that are left at the moment, so not looking too good.

Signing on is fucking awful.

Talk about feeling like shit when you hand over a list of jobs that you’ve been going for and the smug sod on the other side of the desk still thinks you’re scum. I had years of that.

is it really that bad in the uk? We have had more lay off than usual the past months, espescially in the car industry, but otherwise things are quite normal. This must be very stressful

I’m a systems administrator for a bank - have been a huge amount of redundancies over the last lot of months. I’m guessing I won’t have a job to complain about for much longer :-/. Just as well I got my T? ticket for Dublin already!!!

Did you know bin men have one of the highest paying unskilled jobs? Seriously! We should all just go and become bin men and women and make a fortune.

I’ve just got home from a 9 hour shift in tesco, first thing I said when I came in, I fucking hate working there. But in reality I should count myself lucky. I’m 20 have no debts whatsoever, have plenty of money to buy things I want and have lots of good things, I really do take working for granted. When it gets really bad in work I just think of the poor uni students who are just building up debt and probably still gonna end up with a poor job if one at all (no offence any students).

Today would have been my last day in my job so I was freaking out a bit until 2 weeks ago - thankfully they have extended my contract for another 4 months. I really need to find something permanent, but there isn’t anything out there. Scary times.

Binmen/women/persons is a great job as you don’t need any training, you just pick it up as you go along :-)

A friend of mine was moving to a different city, so looked for and got a job there - when he went to tell his boss, he was told they were looking for cuts so paid him to go away.

When I was, ahem, asked to leave my job 6 years ago (and the scars still show) they offered me roughly half what they should have - luckily a good lawyer and a sister-who-worked-in-HR helped them see the error of their ways. If you think you might be for the chop, get some good advice on how much you’re worth - and make sure you’re made redundant rather than sign a compromise agreement, otherwise the pay-off is taxable.
