Excellent Therapy announced for the 2009 Damnation Festival. That is the best news for a while all I need now is Neurosis to headline

jesus 72 quid is the cheapest train ticket i could find, i’d probably be better off passing my driving test and renting a car.

I was considering going to this. I have a drivers license if anyone wants to chip in for a rental car and we can all travel up together. Means getting to Leicester though. Dunno how cheap that is for anyone else who wants to go…
Just a thought though, if anyone’s up for it :)

hmm doors for this open at 1, 3 stages, could be a fair few bands i wanna see if last years line up is anything to go by, sods law though is that therapy? will be clashing with someone like napalm death who i am still yet to see, but therapy? come before all bands for me so no ones going to tear me away from seeing therapy?

gav do you know if last year you could kleave the venue once you go in? because 14 hours in the same place surronded by loadsa people without a fag is going to get a little claustraphobic and stressfull

How much are the tickets for it this year?
@Grant - Birmingham is probably do-able. It’s not too far out of the way. So is it an indoor thing or what?

g (Does everything start with destruction?) wrote:

its indoor as far as I know, looking at the poster of las years it was 29, but this years seems to be longer, more bands and an extra stage so i reckon anywhere between 35 and 45.

I’ve just realised its on a saturday so anyone commuting its going to be a pain in the arse the next day as sunday train times are notoriously bad, anyone know if any clubs in leeds open till like 6 or 7 to hit at the unis throwing out time of 3?

There were 3 stages last year, people could go for a fag no problem. I think we kept our ticket stubs for re-admission.

Last year ticket prices were very reasonable (£35 each I think)

If they stick to last years format its all indoors and quite well organised. The year before it was at Jillys Rockworld / Music Box in Manchester.

Just had the briefest of glances on their forum. To say they usually go for the heaviest underground metal acts around, I thought there might be some backlash from adding a band like Therapy? to the bill.

So far most of the feedback seems really positive. Coolio!

Dont they usually have one band like therapy? though?

last year it was like pitchshifter surronded by extreme metal bands, which i’d imagine would be the same this year but with therapy? having the pitchshifter slot.

hopefully the berzerker, napalm death, anaal nathrakth, pig destroyer and beneath the massacre play, hell 1 of those bands on top of therapy? will make me happy.

I would want meshuggah to do it but i think if they did they’d be on the same time as therapy? as theyre too big not to headline really and im seeing them at download anyway.

to me that looks the perfect day out, looking at all the past lineups if theres just 2 or 3 bands playing from one of the past years damnation i’ll be over the moon

Pitchshifter used to be really heavy though - they were on Earache for years and had more of an Industrial Godflesh type sound. It was only on the last 3 albums where they sounded more comercial / poppier. So I can see how they would fit the bill.

TBH - they were on at the same time as Carcass - so they could have played all New Kids covers and no-one would have heard ;)

Right to try and answer a few points on behalf of the organisers (based on what I remember)

Once you are in your in however they did have a section outdoors for smokers to go and have a ciggie they just won’t let you go out and come back two hours later.
The bands will be finished by about 11pm but allowing for over-running best to say 11.30 there’s then a DJ night until 3pm.
There won’t be any backlash to Therapy being on the bill there was a lot of push for them to play last year and I assume with the recording schedule it didn’t fit. Also with the addition of the Rock Sound stage there’s a bit more lets say less extreme music spread across the day

Ah cheers, another question, are all the headliners on the different stages staggared or can you only watch 1 headliner?

In theory you can only watch all of one headliner though the times may be staggered a little which may mean you can watch the start or end of one band and the whole set of another one. Hope that makes sense it doesn’t read too well

Are you going to this one sammy?

anyone got any pics of who else they’d like to play?

for me :

Pig destroyer (rarely play the uk would go down extremley well)
Anaal Nathrakth (same as above)
Anathema (started getting into them recently, would love to see them live)
Carcass (missed them last year, probably 0 chance of them being back as they’ve already got a uk show booked and i think its exclusive)
Napalm Death (The band that opened me to more ‘extreme’ music)
Akercocke (The band that showed me music could be both extreme and melodic)
Converge (responsible for one of the best albums at all, shows that hardcore music isnt all just faggy and it can be heavy)
The berzerker (insane live band, really enjoyed them alst time i seen them)
Cephalic carnage (grinding as fuck, really enjoyed what i saw them live though i spent m ost their set passed out, need to see them again to make up for it, KILL FOR WEED!)

just one of the above would make my day.
