Michael’s new diary entry

Anyone else he excited by this?
I’d love to think we might one day get a chance to hear some of the early stuff he as tucked away on cassette.
I’d happily pay for downloads of early rehersals and gigs, even if the quality was a bit on the pants side!!!!!

Jebus. Earliest tape dated from 1989. I was only 5!!
Can’t wait to hear this stuff though. I wonder what format they’ll choose for this stuff. Download only I’d imagine but a proper demo boxset or something would be pretty cool.

Yes, I got very excited - I would love to get my hands on that tight little box!!! :-)

I certainly hope there may be plans to make this stuff available over the next few years, otherwise Michael is a sadistic individual for even mentioning them!

Gloria/Bloody Blue/Loose/Something/Here Is…/Skyward/Multi-Fuck/30 Seconds/Beefheart-Albini/You/Body O. D./Punishment Kiss”

So this is weird… Loose and 30 seconds are the infernal love songs or other ones?

And what about the songs Something, Here Is…, Multi-Fuck, You, Body O. D ?

Anyone knows?

Yep, it’s quite possible that the lads reworked ‘Loose’ and ‘30 Seconds’. There’s an early version of ‘Jude the Obscene’ from the “Catweazle” demo (Andy’s old band).

‘Here Is’ and ‘Multifuck’ are on the “Meat Abstract” demo tape.
‘Body OD’ is on the “Thirty Seconds of Silence” demo tape, and is an early version of ‘Stop It You’re Killing Me’.
As for ‘Something’ and ‘You’, I’ve not heard of them before.

I just read the diary post again - Michaels been recording “everything”? Holy fuck, that’s thousands of gigs, rehearsals etc. I thought it was just Lars Ulrich that did that!

I think I need to break into his house* at some point - I imagine the feeling as I enter the attic would be akin to how I felt as a 6 year old on Christmas morning finding my new bike waiting for me. :-D

*Disclaimer: I wouldn’t actually break into his house.

Maybe just through the roof, into the attic.

I just realised I said “stuff” way too much in my first post.
Is there a thread on the WoM anywhere that has a list of all the rare or unreleased tracks that are floating around? I’ve collected a few over the past 5 years but the problem is that I don’t know what songs are out there, so I don’t know which ones I’m missing.
And back on topic… I think a box set that you have to wait for the cd’s or vinyl for would be good, rather than just lumping 5 or 6 together and releasing them all at the same time. No one does that these days though, which is a shame really.

see the way i look at it is this…

i doubt any record label would be willing to make a huge box set with loads of low quailty demo’s and rehersals. iot would be so costly.
Nirvana got away with it with the 3cd/1dvd thing a couple of years back, but that Nirvana, this is Therapy?. As much as i love T? there would be no money in it for record labels… but…
if a digital only “box set” was released with a wicked selection of stuff from late 80’s / early 90’s there would be a small cost for the initial set up and i would pay good money for this sort of thing.

i just gave 30 seconds and met abstract demo’s a listen in a moment of nostalgia, my mp3s are only 96k, how lame is that. would love some better quality ones if any ones has em!!!!!

In saying that, I rarely listen to that boxset. Yes, loads of stuff that would later became Bleach and all that, but hardly goes beyond a third listen

@fatboy : They were in their earliest (Troublegum era) here in France (maybe Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands too). It’s possible too that american bands sound used to correspond to an expected mind over the world more than what uk and rest of europ could offer us.
About Nirvana boxset you mean, even though it’s still interesting to get it as a fan that we all could be as possible, I’m afraid that was some of one of the many projects Nirvana’s major just to only make money that all, whereas T? project belongs to their career project now. I’m just thinking of Join The Dot whether you know I’m sure, The Cure’s alike one.
Then in my opinion, it’s good, I’m glad in advance.

I hope the cassettes are all “Chrome type II” because ordinary old audio-cassettes usually referd to as”Normal Position” -types gives

more “brum-hissy-noise” and more “bassy” sound while the “Chrome type II” gives an more “Clear and dynamic” sound…anyway…

nerdy technique-stuff…but good nostalgic memories of the “old good music days”… :-)

Great work An - finally the masses will get to see all the work!
Though, you will need to add that rehearsal from ‘89 to the “recording sessions” section. :-) Maybe, Michael could send you some setlists/dates etc, when he’s finished transferring all his stuff as I’m guessing he’s documenting them all.

I’d be v surprised if much stuff got a commercial release - you’d be looking at an album’s worth at most I would imagine - but nothing to stop stuff being posted on the site as with Casey Jones etc (hey Andy? See what Mike’s doing? How’s you’re attic looking?).

@soul doubt - that’s really cool - should finally be able to work out how many times I’ve seen them! :-)

How about a subcription service, kinda like a fan club sorta thing where by signing up you get a cd every few month and acess to downloads (flac)?

I’d happily pay around 50 quid a year for such a service, maybe it could even be tiered so for different price you get different acess to the service, eg someone paying the lowest price would only get downloads, wheras full price would get you the downloads, cd release, exclusive tshirt etc.

Hi An,

That looks impressive! Just fyi, there never was a ‘gig’ on 29th August, they played at a private party, which wasn’t in St. Jansteen. Also no tickets were sold for this or given out, so don’t feel bad if you didn’t make it..;) They did however borrow the gear from Stonedust.
