Are Anthrax Without A Singer Yet Again?!

#

Started by Dennis (Dudley Less)

Rumours are mounting that Dan Nelson is out of the group - and they haven’t even released the first album he sings on with the band yet! :-

He’s changed his Twitter name, removing the reference to Anthrax, too.

All speculation at this point, but an announcement will be made soon…

If he HAS gone, for whatever reason, then surely it is time for Benante and Ian to give up the Anthrax name and start again…?

Well serves them right to be honest for ousting John Bush for the nostalgia act (aka big money offer) with Joey. I know john was offered a spot on the tour aswell, but all dues to him for not doing it. The old saying comes in if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it, Bush era Anthrax was quality ok they weren’t playing the big arenas anymore but I think they were a well respected band.

The anthrax name has well and truely been tarnished, which is a pity.

Is John Bush doing anything within music these days? Shame if he isn’t, cracking vocalist.

The Sound of white noise is my favourite Anthrax album, also love The Greater of Two Evils cd, John doing them classics and making them his own.

And from my first post, no disrespect to Dan Nelson, I haven’t actually heard the guy so for all I know he could be quality, but my opinion of scott and charlie is negative.

Not really followed what Bush is up to. When the reunion was going on with Joey I think he was doing stuff with Armored Saint, but I think that might be on hiatus now. And then he did some voiceovers for adverts (a Burger King one in particular, so I am told - unless that was some Anthrax forum wind-up…)

I think the way he handled his exit from Anthrax was cool - he certainly comes off looking better from the whole debacle than Benante and Ian.

I was never into Joey’s vocals, but John Bush era Anthrax for me is the great lost Metal band that seems to have slipped through history’s net (so much so that Bush was out of the band before I got into them myself!)
Sound of White Noise is a great album - why doesn’t it get mentioned in the same breath as other albums from that time that are held up as classics?!

Bush albums are the shit, alright!
If they have lost another vocalist, then it’s definitely time to give up the ghost.

Just have to wait and see how this all pans out.

I think that the Bush stuff had a completely different and hard-hitting dimension that the Joey stuff did not.

Armored Saint has always been a safe fall back for Bush.

Their last album was only OK though. Just going through the motions to keep the band alive, really.
Hope they step it up a few notches if they’re recording again.
The early Armored Saint albums before he joined Anthrax are classics.

First I’ve heard of a one off gig with Anthrax, though.
Wonder if this has anything to do with the Dan Nelson situation…???

Thw whole Anthrax soap opera bores me…Zzzzzzzz! They stopped being relevant many, many years ago but I’ll admit that SOWN is a corker of an album. Don’t care much for them now. Rather have a good new Armoured Saint CD with Bush on top form than a new Anthrax CD!!

Maybe… seems that they are going to redo the vocals on the new album when/if they find a new singer, but from the stuff i have found on the internet Bush had said at one point in the past he would like to rejoin Anthrax so who knows. I personally would like it as i do love them.. they have pis a bit on their legacy by doing the Joey tour just for the money as it didn;t work and they were on the up with the last album and just took a step back again.

From a musical point of view, they should never have done the reunion - they should have continued the momentum they had with WCFYA with Bush- but from things they have hinted at in the past, the reunion tour was one they did for the money as it was a “make or break” point in their career. Maybe if they hadn’t done it they’d have had to quit completely, but I can’t imagine it made an awful lot of money.

I’d love it for Bush to rejoin permanently, (on HIS terms, of course) but I think it would be better to release the album they have recorded as it is - if the album is good, leave it as it is.

i love the bush-era records and some of the earlier stuff. but i stopped caring about anthrax when they kicked bush out to do that stupid reunion. john bush is the reason they even survived the 90ies and then they kick him out after more than 10years …
john should stay with armored saint now, fuck scott and charlie … they proved that they’re only in it for the money long ago …

This is bad luck for Anthrax. scott ian is a legend despite it all - he has said that if anthrax hadnt done the reunion for money then the band was over as they dont have any! they deserve better luck IMO. Get john back!

Agreed.

Joey can’t sing and the songs from that era sound a ton better with Bush singing them, even though they are inferior to the SOWN-onwards songs, for the most part.

Part of me wants Bush to say fuck em for the way they treated him but another part wants him back in the band as the bush era albums are perfect IMO i grew up with the joey stuff but his vocals really date the band and the last few albums with him had good songs but had some filla too.

I’d put ‘Persistance Of Time’ up there with any of the Bush albums.
Although! That being said, the POT tracks re-recorded on ‘The Greater Of Two Evils’ are far better vocally than the originals.

‘In My World’ is a quality sing-along anthem at their gigs. No matter who’s singing it.

POT i remember going nuts over when it came out.. Keep it in the family, Time, belly of the beast and Got the time are classic songs or covers in Got the times instance. But i did feel the songs could have been trimmed a bit it suffered from the problem metallica later had that the songs were a bit bulky at times and a bit of shoterening would have made them have more impact.

Quality album, though!

You could see where they wanted to go as a band.
Joey just wouldn’t have been able for SOWN.
Good decision at the time for the bands sake.

Shite decision to get Joey back for reunion gigs.
Lost all momentum they’d built up. They were on a bit of a roll. Then just hit a wall.

Kossu I was brought up on him too, but Bush did have more presence with them and suits the style they do now and in the 90’s. I loved the joey reunion tour but it did show his weaknesses.. he gets the crowd going through pure energy so its slowly builds up as te show goes on. Bush’s gigs when i saw them he just commanded it and the gigs took off from the start. Different kinds of singers and people… but after they redid the old songs with Bush singing he made them his own and breathed new life into them.. he can do the joey era stuff well, but Joey flat could not sing the 90’s/00’s era Anthrax material which would mean losing four fantatsic albums worth of stuff from the set. :)
