I’m very excited about this project, three people i rate and respect. Can’t wait for the London gig and it seems they are playing sydney next year as well. Not long till the album comes out should be the end of october, all the songs i’ve heard so far have been interesting but its hard to tell on dodgy bootleg stuff.

no offense, but to call them crooked vultures “grohl’s project” is almost insulting musicians like homme and especially john paul jones. and i’m sure grohl himself would agree.

The project was initiated in Grohl back in 2005 - hence ‘his’ project

Calling Feeder a “band” is horribly insulting to proper bands that write decent music, too.

I find it quite QOTSA in sound a bit more pycadelic and John Paul Jones’s influence stand out a lot and as those elements appeal to me I think its great, the production is a bit strange and the album as a whole does take more listens for it to settle in but I’m loving it more with every listen as it has so much going on. Guess as i had no expectations then i’m not disappointed. :)

I don’t think the album or the band are as good or have this amazingly new sound that the hype makes out or that people expect. But i still really like what they do, there are some really cool songs and it does have a lot of different things going on and styles on show which makes it interesting. I also don’t think its a perfect album the down side is that its too long and Interlude with ludes and possible the last song spinning in daffodils could be lost from the album completly and i wouldn’t miss them and general trimming of the excess fat on each of the songs would make it flow better. Josh Hommes lyrics are pretty bad on most of the tracks, i loved his stuff on the first three Queens albums but there is some cringworthy stuff on TCV, that aside i have been playing it none stop since buying it and will probably still be high up on the albums i have liked this year.

well, there is some filler stuff of course … 10 tracks would have been enough, i’m with divers on that one.
apart from that, i didn’t except the re-invention of the wheel but some killer riffs, bluesy licks, great drum-fills and smooth vocals. and that’s definately there, so …

I really like the album. What can possible go wrong when the rhytmsection is Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones? Absolutely nothing!

Even though there is a few fillers, the album in whole is good. Reminds me from QOTSA’s Songs For The Deaf, but much more Led Zeppelin style riffing. I didn’t think that Josh Homme was a great guitarist until this album. His guitar playing is good on the songs. Can wait to see them live at Berlin next month. :o)

I do find myself being more impressed and drawn to the album with each listen… i do still feel the lyrics were done more on the spot but they seem to fit the sings so fuck it. Dead End Friends, Reptiles and scumbag blues are highlights for me and JPJ with Grohls drumming works so well. :D Maybe i did write my best of list too soon?

Listened to their stream of the album, wasn’t exactly blown away. It’s ok, but it’s not exactly changed my life. I think you can never really get away from the distinctiveness of Josh Homme’s guitar sound, which makes everything he plays on sound like QOTSA imho.

Dennis (Dudley Less) wrote:

^ I’d agree with that about Homme’s guitar sound. Same for his vocals, too. He’s a bit like Brian May in the sense that whatever he plays on, it’ll always sound like him, rather than something “new”.

Here lies my problem: Homme is so distinctive as QOTSA, that anything he does extra curricular sounds like a poor mans version of his main gig. Bit like Jack White, should stick to what he’s best at.
