Classic Rock night in Birkenhead…but what to play?

#

Started by CarlOfHellacious! (carl)

Hey all, as you all have exquisite musical taste I was hoping you could help me out…
I am DJing at Revolver in Birkenhead (formerly known as Hotel California) on alternate Saturdays. I’m doing the classic rock room, and it’s free so please if you are in the area pop down!
The thing is I’m not majorly into classic rock, don’t get me wrong I have enough for a few days worth of DJing, but I just wondered if anyone has any ideas of what ‘obscure and random’ classic rock tunes that I could play which people might be familiar with?
Of course I shall be promoting Therapy?s gig the night after just 2 miles up the road in Liverpool!
Thanks for your help, I’m away til Friday but I’ll catch up on your ideas then!
Carl.

Tigertailz - lovebomb
la guns - no mercy
quireboys - sex party
steel panther - death to all but metal

cant think of anything else that would go down well

the wildhearts would probably go down well if you went for anything off earth vs, i guess you could get away with some backyard babies too.

Hmmm…assuming by “classic rock” you mean stuff from the ‘70’s - ‘80’s:

Rush - Red Barchetta
CCR - Lodi
Aerosmith - Adam’s Apple
AC/DC - Overdose
Billy Idol - (Do Not) Stand in the Shadows
GNR - Mr. Brownstone
Nirvana - About a Girl/Negative Creep

Sweet Home Alabama and Summer of 69 have always gone down really well, whatever band I have been in (for some reason I cannot get away from those songs…and yes, I DO realise that Summer of 69 is a stinking pile of shit, but hey, people like it!)

Bit of Free/ Bad Company, ZZ Top, Queen - everybody likes a bit of Queen* - Metallica even (Enter Sandman is old enough to qualify, I reckon), Ace Of Spades, Led Zep, AC/DC, Bon Jovi (sorry. I know they’re wank), Ramones, Sex Pistols, Damned, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, probably get away with Nirvana/ Alice In Chains/ Pearl Jam these days too…

*apart from the guys on the WoM with no taste who slagged them off in a thread this year!

Slayer qualify in the Classic room in Rockworld. Heartily suggest Dead Skin Mask.
Manowar—Battle Hymns.
Whatever you play you’ll get perstered to play something else.
I remember going to a rock bar in Birkenhead once, am I right in thinking there’s a place called ‘Steps’ or ‘Stairs’ or something like that there?
