Fed up of Simon Cowell’s latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1?
Me too… So who’s up for a mass-purchase of the track ‘KILLING IN THE NAME’ from December 13th (DON’T BUY IT YET!) as a protest to the X-Factor monotony?

AGAIN DON’T BUY IT YET!
NO, REALLY DON’T BUY IT YET. IT WON’T COUNT!

In response to supporters’ comments we have set up a justgiving page DONATE TO SHELTER - http://www.justgiving.com/ratm4xmas

this is stupid, its reeks of a record label set up as well, coincedence both killing in the name of was and the xfactor winners song will be released on sony records? i think not. either way sony have your money, the best way to send them a message would be for everyone to boycott buying single tracks altogether that week or buy something on an indie label.

While I agree with you that the charts don’t mean fuckshit anymore, I think this is just a last gasp chance for us Oldsters (or Oldnesses or El Olderinos or Septuagenarians, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing) to act all young and rebellious. Ignore us; we’re out before midnight. ;-)

you know what, i was wrong, im gunna buy it, if it does get to number one maybe xfactor will fuck off and die. plus the line ‘fuck you i wont do what you tell me’ sums up my feelings on alot of things in a blunt to the point way.

I’m not going to buy it. I haven’t even known what’s been in the charts for years (other than having to be tortured by dirge like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, etc, etc appearing on or being mentioned on various shows).

Still, that’s a great song and it would be kind of amusing if it got to number one, so I hope this scheme (even though it probably is a money-making ploy by Sony) keeps X-Factor off number 1.

I heard about this on Rock Radio the other day…Sounds like a good way of keeping the Cowell machine from having the monopoly on xmas no1.
Yes, maybe the charts mean fuck all nowadays, but it’s just sickening and boring that every year it’s a Simon Cowell act that gets it. I’ll be joining in and buying it :)

I agree with the sentiment but its not really a song you’d want to sit down with your three year-old and sing along to. I am tempted to get it just to stop the Simon-Cowell-shit-machine but its a shame it comes to that.

No-one does decent Christmas songs any more, maybe they never did :-(

Last decent Christmas number 1? The Donnie Darko Tears for Fears cover?

I’m pretty sure if you buy it there the actual line will be “BLANK you I won’t do what you tell me.” BLANKing censorship…

I don’t bother, no, refuse to download music because that’s one of the many reasons the industry is going down the shitter, hence the charts don’t mean much to me either.

But will I go against my own judgement to get Rage to piss over Cowell in the charts and down load the track?

Maybe

They’ll never play it. RATM are an alternative band and as such it is dangeous to have too much chart exposure. Think I’m joking? Remember some dodgy girl band (can’t remember the name) doing RHCP and there is some god awful version of ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ I keep hearing in the gym with some crap warbler warbling over the top of it. I say keep it out of the charts. Before you know it you’ll get the Spice Girls doing a cover version of it and some spotty teenager will be churning it out Boyzone stylee in next year’s X Factor.
Personally, I’m going to live in a cave for the next couple of weeks to avoid it all. Just me, a bottle of Smirnoff and a Slade EP. Well, after all, it is Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssstttttttttttttttttttmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

its been on radio one all week (the censored version mind)

its starting to look very likely too, the xfactor xmas tune is gonna be a miley cyrus one (from what ive heard, isnt even her best)

i couldnt care less about the money or the sony nonsense, for me its a bit of fun, and a way of saying “fuckoff we dont want your mindless corporate, manufactured, cover version excuse of a song clogging the charts year after year”

what makes me laugh is cowell actually hit back saying “I also think it’s incredibly dismissive of the people who watch and enjoy the show… to treat our audiences as if they’re stupid and I don’t like that.”

LOL

Thats another song the rock fans know and like, and you know…it’s a pretty damn good one.

Heh, quite amusing.

I like how he’s suggesting it spoils it for the X-Factor finalists as it might stop them getting a number one single. It’s not like they’ve done anything to deserve it anyway, or at least no more than someone who does karaoke in their local pub every weekend.

Still, as amusing as this is, it won’t get rid of the show or the millions of idiots who watch it, unfortunately.

The whole thing was probably started by Cowell anyway - all those slobbering retards who sit transfixed (waits for the backlash from the x-factor loving wombles :p) week after week, but are too lazy / tight to actually buy the resulting single might be tempted into buying the x-factor one just because they feel sorry for whichever butlins redcoat wannabe actually wins it.

Someone hide Mrs. H’s knife collection ;)

Very true. This all adds attention to X-Factor, and like you say it could encourage more of the retard viewers to buy the X-Factor single. Oh well. The charts have been meaningless for years. The only two singles I bought this year were Crooked Timber and an old 3 Colours Red single - and both of those were just for the b-sides.

Hmmm, sorry to point out the obvious but THEY ARE FUCKING STUPID!!!!! Anyone who buys music because simon Cowell tells them to is a real loser! Cowell isn’t the enemy here - its the stupid record buying public, what a bunch of sheep!

Well I suppose the sentiment is there, the idea being to tell the music industry that not everyone will buy what they’re told, although the irony isn’t lost on me that instead of buying the first thing they were told to buy, they will instead be buying the second thing they were told to buy instead!

In terms of a representative sampler to people who might be interested in RATM, it certainly doesn’t represent their best work, but it was the song that inroduced me to RATM at a tender age, so it’ll please a bunch of kids.
