I can already see what will happen next year. Instead of one song like the RATM one, there will literally be hundreds of different campaigns for other songs, including small bands trying to get a name for themselves and older bands trying to get recognition again. I reckon nearly every band next year will have a separate campaign for them to be xmas number one started up by fans of the band etc. Due to the many different campaigns, x factor will probably get to number one. Just a thought.

Yeah this one has started the ball rolling. It will get people buying singles again though! Journey are in the top 10 cos that twat from X factor did it which is pretty cool.

Yeah I can see it happening already, on this forum alone there are people thinking about trying to get a song campaign started, whilst on the wildhearts forum they are thinking about trying to get a wildhearts song campaign started, whilst over on facebook one of my friends has already joined a campaign to get Ween as number xmas 1 in 2010. I wonder if any other band forums are thinking the same thing?

so did anybody else go to the rage factor?

it was ok but to be honest, after waiting since about 1994 to see this band i didn’t think it was worth the wait…

Was offered tickets under face value for RATM in Dublin’s O2 yesterday but couldn’t be arsed.

Seen them couple of times ‘back in the days’ and there was a football match on which I prefered.

Didn’t even register for the London gig, just settled for watching a video i’ve got of them in tiny club back in 92, think that’s how i’d want to see them but can’t see it happening now.

I was there. I was in awe that I actually saw them live…However, I concur with you a bit Richboy, I think the ‘spark’ has gone a little bit in them. Still, least we’ve finally got to see them.

I was at the Dublin gig and it kicked ass - went there with low expectations and was surprised!

the setlist apparently was:

Setlist:
Testify
Bombtrack
People Of The Sun
Know Your Enemy
Bulls On Parade
Township Rebellion
Bullet In The Head
White Riot
Guerrilla Radio
Sleep Now In The Fire
Freedom

Killing In The Name

I had to leave during sleep now in the fire (as with Ravey Davey Gravy i had to catch a train, even though he didn’t go…) - did i really only miss 2 songs?

i may be being a bit biased but i seriously thought they were crap (as a spectacle) compared to therapy? or other NI bands such as LaFaro or ICOF. the musicianship was great but they just didn’t have the x-factor if you like. ;)

Glad i saw them “back in the day” cos i wouldn’t wanna ruin it by seeing them now. Personally i think their music was very “of the time”. Still glad that they got that xmas no1 and it was good of them to give people a chance to see them for free.

Can’t imagine that the gig was much different from back in the day to be honest - sound in the venue was deadly, band was very active on stage, crowd was going beserk…

Did they used to sacrifice people on stage or am I missing something here?

Also they looked like they were really enjoying it (not sure if I heard right at the end, but sounded like “see you guys again in December”?)

I will however admit that their music is somewhat dated at this stage, but still brings back fond memories.

Very good sir, very good! I think they need to ‘get with the times’, as it were. In other words, new music is needed. Some are sounded quite dated, it would be good to see if they still have the anger to write songs that tell the ills of today’s society.

Yep, you did mate. I’m sure they were supposed to play a bit longer. Knew they’d (obviously) finish with KITN (which, in my view, isn’t even their best song…), but thought they would have played a couple more…No ‘Tire Me’ or ‘Wake Up’, which I was most disappointed in.

And you did the right thing, as the police and their horses were out, then the mandatory squeeze into Finsbury Park Station…Joyful, that was.
