Another Itunes/Ipod question?

Hey guys, you lot are always reliable in good info and help so thought i’d ask a question.

A few weeks ago while updating my ipod it crashed my laptop when I added new files, after thinking something was wrong I did the system restore on the ipod and then tried to put the whole of my music collection back on it, same thing happened and wouldn’t put any of the music on there, so I assumed it was the Ipod that was buggered. I also installed winamp to see if it was just the itunes that was playing up but still the same thing happened using winamp. So I haven’t used my ipod now for awhile thinking it was broke.

I then put some new music onto the laptop and went to play it though Itunes and then that crashed my laptop. And it’s doing it now with any new music I put on there.

So any advice on what could have gone wrong somewhere, the rest of my laptop is working fine, it’s just the music so I assume there’s something corrupt within it.

Also when I do a full system scan, at the point where it gets to the music files it crashes when it get’s to certain music files. I then deleted each file that it crashed on, but it’s still happening.

My first instinct would say you have bad sectors on your hard drive, but it would be weird that you’ve never had problems with anything other than music files if that was the case.

Still, if it crashes when you try and copy those files, crashes when you try and play them and crashes when your virus scanner is scanning them then it does sound a lot like those files are on a corrupt part of your hard drive.

Ouch. Something similar happened to my partner’s machine. He ended up having to take all the music off his laptop onto an external drive, reinstall the ipod software and then put all the tracks back on to the laptop one at a time. It took him days but it worked.
