London Shows/20th Anniversary

#

Started by MIKEHELL

Folks,
Just back home and wanted to say many thanks to everyone who made our Water Rats shows such great evenings. There was a brilliant atmosphere, everyone got into it and we got some killer live recordings. Special thanks to everyone who travelled, Dave McPherson for the opening slot, Diamond dave for Dj’ing and all the Water Rats posse for making us feel so welcome.

There are some more interesting 20th Anniversary events in the pipeline…stay tuned!

Thank you mike hell, neil, andy and all the crew for putting on such amazing shows. Can’t wait for some more 20th anniverary stuff.
Must also say that the staff at the Water Rats did a great job and were all polite and friendly (not all my experiences in London have been like that).

I had an amazing time at all three shows. Thanks so much to the Therapy? boys for putting on such awesome and intimate gigs, nothing could top them for me.

Unfortunately since Wednesday I can’t stop obsessing about how I totally screwed up my opportunity to meet and converse with the band, despite having dreamt about it for years! When Andy spoke to me I completely froze, what a fool! If I spoke to any of them after that I don’t remember it as I had also made the mistake of getting too drunk on the last night.

I eagerly await news of more 20th anniversary events and especially hope there might be a chance to meet the guys again and make better use of the opportunity or I may never forgive myself!

That’s about as bad as me asking James Dean Bradfield to take a picture of me with Andy, totally not realising who he was.

Oops.

Well, hopefully we’ll both get our chance again.

Prison Breaker & Man-fish: I wouldn’t worry about it too much if i was you, i managed to be totaly oblivious to the whole of T? walking past me while i was having a roll-up outside the venue before the gig. My better half turned to me and enquired how i’d managed not to notice any of them, particularly as one had looked straight at me as they walked past. This is not the first time this has happened to me at a gig (in the 90’s i was going to see Bush and they were in the same train carriage as me (broken down tourbus) and i didn’t notice for the whole 40 minutes of the journey as one example), but that’s life.

james dean was in attendance? makes sense i suppose as he’s obviously a fan from what he’s said in past interviews and would know the band from touring back in the early 90s.

Ah, right, glad someone else saw him. It means I wasn’t imagining things!

I only realised when Kossu posted a picture of him. I might just have recognised him, but he was wearing a hat when I saw him and just seemed like a regular guy. Kind of funny to think that he has been very famous, in Europe at least.

I hope they at least had a bit of a laugh about it together.

Katy, I do remember you speaking to Michael a bit. I’ve got you in a picture with me and him.

Hmm, thanks for letting me know. Well I guess that’s better than not having spoken to any of them at all, although does beg the question: ‘What the hell did I say?’ Curse my overdrinking! I guess I’ll never know and can only hope it wasn’t too moronic! :-) Also hope, like you said, that we’ll get the chance again. Thanks for letting me share the picture, although I don’t know if I actually gave you the choice or just leapt in; in which case I apologise.

Since my identity as ‘Prison Breaker’ on WOM has now been irretreivably linked to my identity as ‘crazy dancing girl’ or whatever at the gigs; I’ll also take this opportunity to apologise and state that I had no intention of ruining anything for anyone by getting carried away. I hope everyone can forgive me.

Michael looks bewildered.

I think at some point on Tuesday I decided not to be an irritable prick (getting some sleep helped) and realised that somebody having a bit of a dance was really nothing worth being annoyed about - just somebody trying to enjoy the music in their own way, same as I was.

Crazy dancing girl is kind of a cool name though.

I’ve done that, promised myself I wouldn’t do it this time, then spectacularly failed to be there on Wednesday. You have my sympathies :-(

Slightly concerned about the word ‘proposed’, but overall very optimistic about this. A band with such a deep back catalogue need and deserve such a release to be a double album.

Yeah, they should show off plenty of styles and they played a good selection of songs… It’d be nice to have Epilepsy on there. It seems though that the songs they played on more than one night are the most likely candidates, maybe they already had a vague tracklisting in mind and one-offs like I Am The Money might fall by the wayside… Hope not!

It would also be nice if they don’t jiggle the tracklisting about too much. It all started so perfectly with Meat Abstract on the Monday and I’d love to hear that as the first track on the album.

I just found an interesting interview promising juicy stuff in the months to come and thought I’d share the news with you guys:

MR: And now we come to the part of just about any interview, and that’s the “what’s-next” part of the interview. So what are your plans for the future?
AC: We’ve just mixed a live album to which we recorded 40 tracks and I think that we will put 36 on it. “Lonely Crying Only” and “I Am The Money” for example weren’t that good so we can’t use them. We might not be able to fit 38 tracks on a double CD so we might end up with 36. While we were in studio we recorded some really old songs in different styles so there will be three CD’s – a double live CD with some 36-38 tracks on it and the bonus CD with some rerecorded stuff like the new version of “Prison Breaker” and “Animal Bones” and then we go into a studio in November or December to start a new record.
So after the tour we’re gonna go to Derby where Neil lives to rehears for the new album which will come out in next March. So the live album in October and then a new album in March.

MR: Great. Now I just have to ask that be it that you are Therapy? The band who always changes musically , but at the same time stays undeniably Therapy? I was wondering if there is a specific way you are going to take on the forthcoming album?
AC: Personally the way I hear it when we are jamming, the rhythm stuff that these two guys are playing is gonna get even more out there. It’s going to be sort of deeper and darker.

Read the whole interview here

Shame about Lonely, Cryin’, Only being cut, I didn’t think it was that bad. I Am The Money wasn’t so great though so no real loss there. Maybe the rerecorded songs will be ones they were going to play but decided to cut out?
