RIP Jilly’s Rockworld Manchester

Shame it came to this but they announced last week that the grand old place is about to become a Tesco Metro.
Had some good times in there, met Therapy? in there too when they did a DJ set one night.
Although, to be honest, last time I was in there were only about 50 people in the whole place.
Anyone else go in? I’ve probably bashed into you at some point or other…:(

I only went once - it was rubbish - was expecting it to be like the Cockpit but the music was rubbish!

Still, always a shame when something historic dies, like The Duchess for example.

It went a bit downhill the last few years but, yes, it is always sad when a legendary venue closes its doors.
There’s so many alternative clubs in town now it couldn’t keep up. Made lots of mates in there over the years so it’s a shame for that more than anything. Oh well, nothing lasts forever…Rock In Peace…

I wondered why it was getting busy recently, obviously people coming to pay respects having heard the rumours I obviously didn’t.

I too was there when T? were on the decks/signing - I think it was the same Friday I saw them do an acoustic set in ‘Urban Outfitters’ in Manchester (used to be C&A) before they released OCFA.

Well there are other places to go at least.

I’ve started hanging out in venues for an older clientele (working men’s clubs, graveyards) - that way you feel really young

I’ll probably trade in my car for a green Rover, buy a bag of Werthers Originals and stop going to the toilet for a piss.

So YOU were one of the other 20 people who turned up to Urban Outfitters!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great gig. Standing on a stairwell whilst T? played to a row of underpants.
LOL!
Yes, it was the same night. I got ratarsed after meeting them in Urban Outfitters and when they turned up at Jilly’s Neil made the rather obvious comment ‘you’ve had a few drinks since we last met’. At least they remembered the ACDC for me…bless ‘em!

My mates and brother came along to Jilly’s for the signing, he didn’t have any paper, so he improvised…much to the band’s amusement

Sad to see it go, I went to Jillys from time to time when I was studying in Manchester, was nice to have a full-on rock club in town, even if the staff were mostly dicks (no offence if you worked there, just my experience)! I seem to remember they used the club for some of the Hacienda scenes in 24 Hour Party People.
