Ok, the cd arrived in the post about half an hour ago, so here goes:

The ‘sample versions’ are exactly that; the same songs but with sampled movie dialogue occasionally running through them. It kinda seems to me that these are the versions that the band wanted originally but maybe couldn’t get copyright clearance in time for the 2009 release. I can’t tell at this stage if they are slightly different mixes, or the original mixes.

The Bong-Ra mix of ‘Exiles’ is actually quite good, a total dub re-working in the Aphex Twin mode…at least to these ears. The remix of ‘Magic Mountain’ is less interesting, but more closely resembles the original version. Much shorter though; less than 5 minutes long.

Youre right about that Alan: Andy told exactly the same to me last weekend. Have to wait for mine til July:( should have ordered mine straight from that link…

So how do the songs sound with the samples in them? Is it annoying or tastefully done like on the first two albums?

They sound good, I think. At first, it’s strange to hear the samples there, but I guess it’s because I’m used to hearing the songs for the last year without them.

I think its a bit of a rip off coming out so close to the original launch.

That said I’ve just ordered it from HMV so it goes to show what a sucker I am.

I’m still going to give this one a miss. Someone call tell me what samples are in the songs, and I’ll just say them myself as I listen to the proper album :-)

Got mine in the post yesterday and the overall synopsis would be that it is OK - I am happy to support this band in any way though I must admit.

With the exception of Exiles (only a short sample at the beginning) I have to say that I really like the sample versions. I am normally not really into remixes, but the ones on the CD are quite good in my opinion.

Even though I already had the two B-sides, it is nice to have it on one overall CD (don’t really listen to singles much).

I guess my only complaints would be
- it is kind of pointless having the regular tracks which are already on the standard Crooked Timber release
- Although the packaging is nice they could have at least updated the booklet to include lyrics from the B-Sides and maybe some additional photos, liner comments etc.

Maybe it would have been better to release it as an e.p. instead (would have made it cheaper) or to have added live versions of the regular songs.

I am not disappointed for having bought it at all, I just think the whole thing could have been done smarter.

Heres waiting for the live album…

I placed my order in Play.com but I deleted it last week and preordered it from Global on 29th of June (from the link which is on this site) and got mine today so very fast delivery to Finland funland. I suggest you do the same; cancel your order from Amazon and order it from Global so you dont have to wait that silly two weeks…

I do stand for what Kossu said,I also ordered mine from Global last week and it only took less than a week to arrive in my letter box and It could have been faster if there hadn’t been the french national day in between (ah the opportunity for the french postmen to be lazy for a week ) and though I don’t know much about ordering things to amazon.com.
