It’s ok. I personally think Maiden are getting a bit lazy with their recording (you can hear loads of mistakes, particularly with the drumming) and song arrangements (whenever Steve Harris has anything major to do with a song anymore, the songs always return to their original melody at the end of the song), but that’s just my opinion as a bit of a loser. Still looking forward to the new album though!

i see you point and a bit of lazyness maybe a factor in that, but i think in general it’s because they record live these days. and you can hear it.
in my book that’s a good thing. as long as a song is carefully arranged before it is recorded, i don’t care about some small imperfections that other bands (hint … hint … metallica … hint hint) would spend days fixing …

Album cover is muck!

I like the track though!
They’re always trying to do something different, but without straying too far from what the they know the fans want.

Can’t wait for the Dublin gig.
Always a great live band.

It gallops along like a good Maiden tune should. Dickinson’s vocals are a bit too talky for me on this one, though, and yes, agreed, the cover art is shit! Bring back Derek Riggs!!

I agree - apparently he quit after the Wicker Man single because they got too difficult to work for! I think he did the ‘Somewhere Back in Time’ cover though. Not sure though, didn’t see much point in buying yet another Maiden best of.

It’s not a great follow up to the last album, either song-wise or sound-wise..

Having said that, the first single of Dance of Death was cack - was it Wildest Dreams or something?

ah come on, paschendale is one of their best tunes in my opinion!
wildest dreams was really poor and i also don’t like the track dance of death and no more lies.
but paschendale, journeyman, montsegur, face in the sand … i really like those!

Dance of Death has its moments (Paschendale, Face in the Sand (although they end up finishing the song at twice the speed they started it), Age of Innocence), but also some real stinkers (Gates of Tomorrow, No More Lies). I was really pleased Adrian Smith was involved in that album, otherwise it would have been awful!

To be honest, I don’t expect too much from Maiden anymore. It’s impressive that a lot of Maiden fans still expect classic albums from a bunch of blokes in their mid-50s, but I don’t see this once being too groundbreaking. Still, at least they’ve got out of that ‘short and disposable first track’ rut they’ve been in since ‘Virtual XI’… first track on the album is 8 minutes long!

I like No More Lies! I can never understand why most Maiden fans hate it…

DoD was OK but it was bookmarked by two really strong albums and suffers by comparison. They have a lot to live up to with their last album and tour - they seemed to be really at the top of their game and at a career high.

I loved Dance of Death and Brave New World. A Matter of Life and Death had their moments, but, new track aside, lets hope the new stuff doesn’t go back to the early 90’s where they just lost the plot and wanted to be AC/DC.
