Oh dear, how to lose / not gain fans

T? @ Sonisphere last night…a summing up

Rammstein finished 50 mins early so 2000+ fans in the big tent waiting…waiting…waiting… Steve comes out and tunes, re tunes, re tunes and re tunes. He may not know this but the atmos where I was was getting quite anti by this constant act, wudda been better staying off stage.

Eventually 11pm, lads come on 3 lines into Knives, power fails!!!!
10 mins to sort out, Steve!!!! comes out again to fanny around tuning, re tuning, re tuning!!

Lads statrt again, half way thru Knives power goes again!!!. Only a short break this time but I saw at least 100 people leave at this point, the crowd behind me were gtting very anti and if this had been 20 years ago, there wudda been some ‘public order problems’

Lads come on again and for the 1st time in 20 yrs I was disappointed by they way they flew through every song mindfull no doubt of finishing in time. The Lads have always had a strong point of being fan friendly but this didnt wash with this long term supporter of the band. The songs were great esp the older stuff they dont play anymore

Yes nothing the lads cudda done re the power and Rammstein cudda changed things and they were quite embarrassed, Diamond Dave looked really worried at the back at one point. I think the lads missed a trick last night.

On another note, any info on the HMV London Troublegum gig that was posted up. Think it was November 19th but not 100%.

Hardly T?’s fault if they start on time, following a 50 minute break due to Rammstein finishing early.
Hardly T?’s fault if the power fails twice.
Hardly T?’s fault if they then have to rampage through their set in order to play everything, mindful that this is the first time ever that they couldn’t actually drop songs from their set (it was promised that they’d play all of Troublegum, after all).

You’ll have to give us more info that this, babylonrass. Very harsh on the lads, imo.

Yesterday at a Punkfestival here in Lempäälä near Tampere the whole power went off for nearly two hours, you can imagine how the atmosphere was around the 1500+ people and the bands…but they solved the problems after all and the headline bands got their stagetime

Yeah, we need more info! As what I´ve read from another source, Stevie said that it was GREAT there…so just wondering that was it really that bad after all…?

Sorry gang for late reply

As I said NOT NOT T?s fault at all BUT it did have a negative effect to the crowd there. As you know Kossu Ive seen them all over and love them to bits, and as I said, it left me a little deflated. hearing the crowd slagging them off and dissing them really pissed me off. I suppose just cos Ive been a fan for x years shouldnt put me on my high horse but if T? wanted new fans form last night I’d be very suprised if any were gained. Maybe Im just used to quality they usually give out but this time round sorry fellas, rather than rush through it you should have told the organisers to stick it and play at the speed / time you and I wanted.

Cool. I wouldn’t worry about festival crowds though, a certain amount will always slag off T?.

I guess the guys felt they were in a corner - the promise was Troublegum, plus they orgainsed for it to be filmed, yet they probably wanted to drop the likes of Unrequited & Lunacy Booth once they realised they no longer had enough time. I can’t imagine they speeded up the songs though? I guess Andy cut out a lot of his between song banter?

Surely, the promoter would give them an extra 10 minutes, especially considering they were the last act on that stage? I can’t imagine a tent being subject to a curfew.

Sounds good, actually! I never like it when Isolation goes on for over 5 minutes.

Just thinking though, they may have planned on cutting out the extended stuff anyway to make it more like the Troublegum version. Though, Andy’s banter is always good so it’s a shame he had to button it.

“The Bohemia stage is bursting at the seams for nostalgic punters hungry to hear Therapy? run through the classic album ‘Troublegum’ in its entirety. But despite technical problems that mean they have to restart the set three times the set sounded both solid and fresh, even if half the crowd is unable to see anything. Hearing everyone singing along to ‘Screamager’ in the fullest of voices is enough to warm anyone’s heart.”

Not exactly a failure, in other words but not their best through no fault of their own.

Personally I think Babylonrass ranting is completely unfair to the band. I wasn’t there, so I can’t judge the situation, only what he says.
Like Alan said, the band didn’t have control over anything he mentioned, this whole situation must have been just as frustrating for them as it was for those people in the crowd who started complaining, if not even more. Still, after two attempts, they tried again… I can imagine there would be bands that say “fuck it we tried, it doesn’t work, we’re out of here”, instead they stood there and played exactly the set they promised their fans, fair play to them!
Moaning about the crew doing a decent soundcheck is pretty lame, unless you want a shitty sound and even more technical problems they COULD have avoided with that soundcheck!

As anyone in a band knows - technical faults can and do happen and are extremely frustrating. I saw T? last year and Mikes bass rig went down but, pro’s that they are, Andy immediatly covered by playing a stripped down version of ‘Diane’ which was cool and promised the crowd a longer set (which they then did) so shame tho it is, I say well done boys for carrying on.
They could have thrown a tantrum and stormed off for having their set ruined but didn’t so hopefully the orgnisers will see how good they were and invite em back next year!

F the crowd that leave.

I’d rather have beer in hand waiting for a band to come on than sit/walk to a tent with a beer in hand, oh but it has to be ‘now, now, now’ for everyone these days.

Patience is a virtue.

i agree with babylonrass in that i have seen them way better. looking back on it i think that they rushed through it a bit. not in terms of playing faster, but it did feel rushed with very little banter etc. then again maybe they wanted to do that because i remember andy saying he didn’t want any spaces on the album as he wanted it to feel claustrophobic (which meant it was difficult having the cassette as sometimes you didn’t know exactly when one song stopped and another started!).

it was just a bit weird that it finished and that was that. i had thought they might come out and play teethgrinder or something afterwards, but then again the tent just seemed to empty after it - it seemed like a bit of an anticlimactic end to me.

also, as the first time i saw therapy? skin sang luncacy booth with them, i thought it might happen again seeing as skunk anansie were there on saturday too…

Although it’s amateur hour for a serious festival to have power failures , you’re not a real rock band until you blow all the fuses a an venue a couple of times or have the plug pulled on you by some dodgy organiser or landlord.
