WOM’s “Classic” Albums!

#

Started by Epitome (Dave)

Just another idea for us to try, not sure if it’ll work or not though. My idea is, someone nominates an album they consider to be a “classic” - not just good or very good, but one of their absolute favourites. Then the rest of us vote whether we agree or not. Allow a couple of days for the voting, then it if receives more YES than NO, it goes on the WOM Classic Album list! Simples!

So, I’ll get things started with my all-time favourite album:

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

2 hours of amazing music, surely a classic… although I fear we have a tough crowd on here ;-)

For: 1 *
Against: 0
Abstain: 0 (i.e. for people who haven’t heard it)

So just copy the score bit and add one to whichever applies to you. Any suggestions for a better system are welcomed, but I think this could be an interesting ummm thing and maybe some of us will discover new music we like too :-)

Well, I was thinking something like that, but with some albums, there might be a lot of abstaining due to people not having heard the suggested album. For example I almost recommended a Minsk album, but probably only a couple of people would’ve heard it… I dunno though, I guess we’ll see how the voting goes for the first few and adapt the system to what seems best :-)

Does that not mean you are against it being a ‘classic’, rather than you’re abstaining?

Saw them in 1995, as has been said, far better as a single album (it would be more fun to pick out the, say 14 songs, that would make a ‘classic’ single album). And Corgan’s voice irritates me in equal measure.

I agree that there’s a lot of filler on there but it’s still a fantastic album and the best punpkins album imo. I got it for Christmas 1998 when I was 16 so it holds a lot of memories as well. Saw them live a couple of years ago and they were fantastic. Definitely prefer the heavier songs on it

Corgan’s mid-90s voice is my favourite voice of any singer. And I don’t know what people consider filler on MCIS… well, maybe Lily and James’s song Take Me Down, but the rest are all amazing and the two I mentioned aren’t too bad really. Still, I did expect this to flunk, so here we go :-P

I still prefer Gish, but Mellon Collie is a fantastic album if you take the time to listen to it all in one go.

I don’t think its their best, but I still think its a classic. It was a pretty big leap from Siamese Dream and I think it was a pretty bold move. Its also the last thing they did of any worth.

Well, I suppose that means Mellon Collie was one vote away from being a WOM classic? You bastards ;-)

Anyone want to nominate another album?
