So for how long has James Joyce been fucking my sister?

So I of course know the album’s from 92 but for how long has Potato Junkie been the special sing along moment in Therapy? shows? Is it like the real classic they’ve played almost every gig or has it been put away to be dug up later, I dunno? Anyway they’ve been doing it every gig since I saw them first in 2006, so I was wondering.

Must say I don’t mind it though, the smirks of those not familiar with it when it works out properly are priceless every time (they also change the intro now and then, and Andy said something freakin’ hilarious I think I hadn’t heard before at Pink Pop Classic, the title of the ‘Irish folk song’ he was talking about). I also like the way Andy asks people to sing along every time like it’s the first, I’m just curious and I’m sure there’s people out here who’ve been going along with Therapy? long enough to tell me : )

Never really liked the song all that much myself (not that I hate it or anything!), though the live sing-a-long is cool.

Jimmy Joyce isn’t the only one to have shagged Andy’s sister.

John Major was at it briefly in 1994. I first saw T? at the Cardiff Astoria that year but I’ve long since wondered what happened to that venue.

Indeed lol :p Well I believe I haven’t seen a Therapy? gig without Potato Junkie yet, since when have you been going to their shows?

They play it live at least since 1991 (I don’t have setlists from before 1991, so I can’t check that), seems like they drop it only occasionally, apart from 2000 and 2001 when they dropped it frequently. I did not check every available setlist, so they might have dropped it more often (http://www.meatabstract.be if you want to have a proper look), but I think we can say it’s a live classic.

Does anyone else that has a sister feel awkward singing along? Or is okay to change the words to ‘Andy’s sister’, which doesn’t quite fit but what the hey.

I like the live version on Opal Mantra, or possible Face the Strange.

If James Joyce wasn’t available, who’d you choose?

Don’t most bands have one song from their first album that becomes ‘the one’ that always gets played, despite not being a hit?

I don’t think so. When me and my sister were in front at Crammerock and Zottegem, we both screamed it along as loud as we could… lol. It’s Therapy?, no time to be rational, I mean it just as much when I sing along the line ‘I’m gonna get drunk, come round and fuck you up’ (though there are a lot of lyrics I agree with too, of course), basically a lot of Therapy?’s songs are about some unindentified somebody anyone can or cannot identify with, but there’s also songs that are clearly just written for fun, I think Potato Junkie is one of them : ) (not to say the song has absolutely no meaning at all, but the meaning is a lot less deep than… other Therapy? songs I could name)

Think it changed hands a number of times and had some different names over the years ( Apocalypse and Forum to name a few ).
Closed its doors when it was the Purple Nightclub and had to make way for the new Primark store on Queen Street.

Pretty sure it’s Primark now , been to Cardiff numerous times but that Brains stuff is not good for reminding things afterwards :)
