Therapy? Vinyl

#

Started by ChrisDavies

Hey guys, was wondering if any of you knew how frequent the likes of Troublegum and Infernal Love come up on the likes of ebay on vinyl. I’m acquiring alot of vinyl lately and would love to add them two albums and Nurse to my collection, but I was really surprised to hardly find any copies on the net. And searching through the resent completed listings on ebay only one of each has been on there lately. Troublegum went for £30 ish and Infernal Love went for £10.50. Are these the normal prices?

Cheers

Surprised Troublegum went for so much - was it black or green vinyl?

There’s been a copy of Nurse at Relics Records in Leeds for a while and they do mail-order - http://www.relicsrecords.co.uk/

Strangely it was the green version, from reading past comments on here, the black version is rarer…

That’s very strange, usually no-one is bidding on these vinyls lately, and you can get them for the starting bid. I guess the Troublegum shows have got something to do with this.

@Chris - How random! Ask ‘em to stick Nurse in there too and save some pastage :)

Just checked the link and the biding has ended.

I’ve got vinyl copies of Nurse and Pleasure Death but I’m not ready to part with them yet.

Great point there Soul Doubt, could well be the reason. I’ve saved the search on ebay so will hopefully get it soon enough.

Managed to get Infernal Love today for £12. And it’s in the same city as me, lol weird how these things work out.

whilst theres a topic about therapy? vinyl is it just me or does crooked timber sound really bad? cant get decent volume on it without a buzzing noise from the needle, sounds worse than an old cassette, is this due to them ramming 5 songs on each side? because 12”s that have just one song on a side actually sound amazing and have a good frequency response (dont even know if thats the correct technical term for what im trying to say)a nd sound loud with the gain left in the middle, and ones that spin at 33 ith 2 tracks on each side need a little bit more gain but not enough to cause the horrible buzzing sound i get on crooked timber and still sound good wheras with crooked timber i turned the gain full up and it was still quiet. not complaining as ive got it as a collectors item and was just giving it a spin out of curiosity the other day but just wondering what is up with the sound its beyond listenable. is it possible i need higher quality needle? got basicy kam ones that cost like 25 quid each so that may well be the problem. or maybe i need a better mixer

I have never listened to mine, but you’re probably right. Most albums sound poorer than 12” singles - more music means smaller vinyl grooves which deteriorates the quality. Probably about 18 mins per side is the most that should be on a record. After that, the quality diminishes rapidly. So, 25 mins each side is too much, I guess.

Sounds fine enough to me, although I don’t have a CD to compare it to. It sounds better than the mp3s I’ve heard but that really goes without saying. I have certainly noticed that it’s pretty quiet.

Yeah it sound’s a little fuzzy but no more than the cd. As a general rule though cramming loads of songs on doesn’t help with the quality, that’s why there’s been a massive up surge in re releaseing everything on double vinyl. The best example I can think of is the recent …And Justice for All reissue, it’s a song a side at 45rpm. It’s sounds really good, far better than other version…but it is a ball ache having to keep swapping discs

all the classics of the modern age were all originally released on vinyl ,ZEPPELIN ,FLOYD, SABBATH THE WHO ,(i could go on ) and they were perfectly acceptable ,so why should there be aproblem now? are manafacures using sub standard material ?

I would think so, Steve. Quality of materials in everyday life seems to be getting worse all the time, as manufacturers look to maximise their profits. Would a washing machine from 30 years ago break down within a couple of years like the ones from today??

Most of the classics were limited to about 20 mins tops per LP side.
If the albums was longer than normal it was most likely released as a 2xLP.

A prime example of perfect LP quality and length is ‘Rainbow - Rising’.
Also! ‘Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality’.
About 17-18 minutes per side.
No bullshit with filler tracks. Just quality music start to finish.
