Amen

This is about the band Amen, not any religious gobbledegook ;-)

Any fans on here? We Have Come For Your Parents is one of my favourite albums, and the follow-up Death Before Musick is great too. Not so keen on their first album, but it’s OK. I thought being a punk/metal cross-over they might appeal to some other T? fans as well.

And I was wondering… what the hell has happened to them (well, to Casey Chaos)? They were working on a new album in 2007 (possibly 2 albums at once, in fact) and it was supposed to come out in 2008… but there’s been no news since. Anyone heard anything about them recently?

They had label problems and half the band left last i heard. They were touring a couple of years back.

Casey Chaos also provided vocals for the Death/Punk supergroup Scum.

Yeah, but Casey Chaos writes it all and plays everything but drums on the records (as far as I know). They had demos out in 2007 and were touring, but then it all went quiet. I think the last I heard (about 2 years ago) Casey was working on the record whilst in rehab :-P

The Scum album’s quite good, but not a patch on Amen’s stuff really. He also recorded vocals for a band called Grindhaller XXX (or something along those lines)… that was a couple of years ago too, and I don’t think that’s appeared yet either. I’d be worried he was dead, but I’m sure that would’ve made the news.

Richard - I definitely recommend getting Death Before Musick. You can usually pick it up for a few quid and it’s almost as good as WHCFYP, although not as aggressive.

god, the last i heard from this band was an interview with Mr Chaos in Rock sound a few years ago where he spent the whole time explaining where his band had gone to since they were so in debt to the tune of $80,000! fair do’s to casey, if i got in that much debt doing music id quit and get a job!

I can’t think of too many “real jobs” Casey would be suited too :-)
He has pretty bad health problems, so he was planning on recording two albums at once (this was in 2007) and then quitting due to health reasons. Maybe his health declined too quickly, but again, I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything…

Scott Sorry was in them for a couple of years, strangely the wiki page doesn’t mention him tho. Rich Jones was in them aswell, now recording with Ginger while The Loyalties are having a hiatus.
Amen supported Wildhearts once, can’t remember much other than Casey hanging upside down from the rigging.

had a listen to death before musick today as a kind of “oh well it’s something new” (even though it’s old). and must say that i enjoyed it a lot. it sounded pretty much like everything amen have ever done to me. which is always ace. it made me feel 18 years old all over again. so thanks dave for the recommendation. but, as i have already mentioned they were always amazing live. the energy that casey put into a live performance was incredible. perhaps that’s why he’s all fucked up now. but then again, he was always pretty fucked up.

thank you sir.

Cool, glad you liked it. Sadly, I never saw them live. Almost went to Damnation last year (or was it a couple of years ago, time means nothing to me) to see them, but didn’t. Presuming he’s not already dead I’ll have to see them on their next tour (if there is one) as it will probably be their last. As well as any drink/drug problems, I think he was also born with a heart or lung problem or something, which probably doesn’t mix well with the amount of energy he uses and crazy shit he does on stage.

“Bloodied, broken and penniless yet again, I hope Amen has set an example that if I can do it, anyone can. And maybe,,,,,,,,just maybe, we changed a few peoples’ lives and opened peoples’ minds to other worlds of music. ”

i don”t know why but i really liked that comment.
