Therapy? interview from Visions 2003

Before I put this old German mag from 2003 into the trash, I thought I should at least scan the T? part and keep it.
You can view and download the pages here:

Shame about the crack in the first. The caption says “The best job in the world”.

I’m not going to translate the whole thing, the gist of the first part is imho, that High Anxiety was supposedly a more traditional T? album, and that England’s/Irelands music scene kinda sucked because of too much Britpop. Also, apparently, Jack Endino had a lot of musical effect stuff lying around, which the T? folks had to try out and this is heard on Shameless, while on High Anxiety Pete Bartlett made sure that wouldn’t be the case (quote: “you’re a rock band and not Radiohead”).
The second part with the direct interview questions I tried to translate as best as I could:

Visions: Is there something like a general insight after being on the long and curvy T? road for 13 years?

Michael: I’m just very proud that T? were always a good, authentic and honest band. If we had split up in 1998 - and we were not that far away from it - then the people would perhaps say “Ah yes, Therapy?. That rock band from the nineties. Yeah, nice.” The fact that we kept going on shows me, that we are in it with extreme passion. And that we have something of a relevance.

Visions: Even more: After this, with Suicide Pact you made the best record of your career.

Andy: Honestly: that you voted this record into your “Top 30 of the nineties”, is one of the greatest compliments we ever got from media. There were so many who thought it was shit, even though we believed that much in it. With this statement, you awarded us as a band a patina (?not sure about proper translation here), a real history.

Visions: Are there still any dreams?

Michael: Sure. It’s still the same dream like before the first record. We want to make the best possible cool rock music together. Nothing has changed about that. It’s a cliche, but it’s like that: everyday with this band is pure fun, exciting freshness, the best what you can do.

Visions: Are you professional optimists? You can’t be that positive and pathological cheerful.

Andy: That has nothing to do with optimism. At least in my case it’s more like total dumbness. My wife asks me at least one time per week: “Andy, why are you still playing in this weird little band?”. And I say to her: “because nothing better comes to mind for me”. Is that dumb? Probably.

Visions: What’s your favourite song from Therapy?

Michael: Oh shit, I always feared this question would come up at one time. (thinks two minutes). I’ve got two: “Meat Abstract”, because it’s a very unusual song for a rock band. And it was the first song ever, that we recorded in proper studio. The second is Screamager, because it’s perhaps the most classic rock song we have ever written.

Andy: For me it’s likely “He’s Not That Kind of Girl”, because everytime when I hear it, I have to ask myself: “Is this really us? Is this my voice?”.

Visions: Which question can’t you absolutely hear anymore?

Andy: Why the questionmark?

Visions: Really? I can’t imagine anyone seriously still asks this.

Michael: Yes! In the last two days at least 3 times.

Visions: And the question you always wanted to hear, but never got asked?

Andy: Andy, why are you so handsome?
